How to Use

Dosage

The dose varies depending on the patient's age, weight, and severity of the infection; your doctor will decide the correct dose for you.

Method

This medicine is usually given as a drip (intravenous infusion) or an injection directly into a vein or a muscle.

Important

The maximum dose for children is 6 g per day, and for adults it is 9 g per day; for patients over 65, it usually does not exceed 3 g per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Swelling and redness around a vein
  • Red, raised, itchy rash
  • Pain, burning, swelling or inflammation at the injection site
  • Increased levels of certain white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Increased cells involved in blood clotting
  • Increased liver enzyme levels
RARE
  • Bowel inflammation, which can cause pain or diarrhea, possibly with blood
  • Yeast infection in the mouth (thrush) or vagina
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fever and chills
  • Decreased white blood cells
  • Decreased platelets (cells that help blood clot)
  • Increased urea or creatinine levels in the blood
  • Kidney inflammation or kidney failure
  • Nervous system disturbances like tremors, seizures, or even coma have occurred in patients who received too high a dose, especially those with kidney disease.
  • Numbness
  • Unpleasant taste in mouth
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin
  • Too rapid destruction of red blood cells
  • Increase in certain types of white blood cells
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Ceftazidim MIP Pharma if you are allergic to ceftazidim or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you've had a severe allergic reaction to another antibiotic like penicillin, monobactam, or carbapenem, as you might also be allergic to this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you notice severe skin reactions, such as red spots, blisters, peeling skin, or fever.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking chloramphenicol, aminoglycosides (e.g., gentamicin, tobramycin), or furosemide (a diuretic).
  • Ceftazidim MIP Pharma can cause dizziness; do not drive or use machines until you know how the medicine affects you.
