How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your weight, age, and infection. For newborns (0-2 months), it's 25-60 mg per kg per day in two doses. For infants over 2 months and children under 40 kg, it's 100-150 mg per kg per day in three doses. For adults and adolescents (40 kg or more), it's 1-2 g three times a day.

Method

Ceftazidim MIP Pharma is usually given by a doctor or nurse as a drip into a vein (infusion) or as an injection into a vein or muscle.

Important

For children under 40 kg, the maximum daily dose is 6 g. For adults and adolescents (40 kg or more), the maximum daily dose is 9 g. For patients over 65, the daily dose should not normally exceed 3 g, especially for those over 80 years old.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Swelling and redness around a vein
  • Red, raised, itchy rash
  • Pain, burning, swelling, or inflammation at the injection site
  • Increase in a type of white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Increase in blood clotting cells (platelets)
  • Increase in liver enzymes
RARE
  • Bowel inflammation, which can cause pain or diarrhea, possibly with blood
  • Yeast infection in the mouth (thrush) or vagina
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fever and chills
  • Decrease in white blood cells
  • Decrease in blood clotting cells (platelets)
  • Increase in blood urea, urea nitrogen, or creatinine levels
  • Kidney inflammation or kidney failure
  • Numbness
  • Unpleasant taste in mouth
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
  • Red blood cells destroyed too quickly
  • Increase in a certain type of white blood cells
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ceftazidime or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics like penicillin or similar medicines.
  • Get urgent medical help if you notice severe skin reactions like red target-like spots, peeling skin, or sores in your mouth, throat, nose, genitals, or eyes. These can be serious.
  • Seek urgent medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction, with symptoms such as a raised, itchy rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
  • Get urgent medical help if you experience nervous system problems like tremors, seizures, or coma, especially if you have kidney disease or received a high dose.

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines like chloramphenicol, aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin, tobramycin), or furosemide, a water tablet.
  • This medicine can affect results of urine sugar tests and a blood test called Coombs test. Tell the person taking samples that you are on Ceftazidim MIP Pharma.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
