How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will determine your dose. For adults and adolescents over 40 kg, it's typically 1 to 2 grams, three times a day.

Method

It is given as a drip (intravenous infusion) or as an injection directly into a vein or muscle.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 9 grams. For patients over 65, it should not exceed 3 grams per day.

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Swelling and redness around a vein
  • Red, raised rash that may be itchy
  • Pain, burning, swelling, or inflammation at the injection site
RARE
  • Stomach pain or diarrhea that may contain blood (bowel inflammation)
  • Thrush (yeast infection in the mouth or vagina)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach ache
  • Feeling sick or vomiting
  • Fever and chills
  • Kidney inflammation or kidney failure
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Unpleasant taste in the mouth
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
  • Rash with blisters that look like small target spots (dark center, lighter ring)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ceftazidime or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to other antibiotics like penicillin.
  • Seek urgent medical help if you get a widespread rash with blisters or peeling skin, fever, or swelling of lymph nodes (signs of serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or DRESS).
  • Contact your doctor or nurse immediately if you have a severe allergic reaction with itchy, raised rash, swelling of the face or mouth, and trouble breathing.
  • Nervous system problems like tremors, seizures, or coma can occur, especially if you take too much medicine or have kidney problems. Tell your doctor if this happens.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines like chloramphenicol, aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin), or furosemide, as they should not be given with Ceftazidim hameln without medical advice.
