How to Use

Dosage

The dose is determined individually according to your doctor's instructions. Typically 150 micrograms (1 ml) per injection.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection under the skin, into a muscle, or as a slow intravenous infusion while lying down. For IV infusion, 1 ml of the injection solution is diluted with 10 ml of 0.9% NaCl solution.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 600 micrograms (four 150 microgram doses). The maximum dose per infusion is 150 micrograms.

  • Enlarged breasts in men (gynecomastia)

  • Dry nose
  • Large intestine obstruction
  • Hair loss
  • Increased blood sugar
  • Confusion
  • Decreased libido
  • Accommodation disorders (difficulty focusing vision)
  • Arrhythmia

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to clonidine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have heart rhythm disorders or a slow heart rate caused by conduction disorders.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a slow heart rate, heart failure, or severe coronary artery disease.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have poor circulation in your brain, arms, or legs.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have depression.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have a nerve disorder (polyneuropathy).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have constipation.
  • Catapresan may reduce tear production if you wear contact lenses.
  • Avoid using Catapresan during pregnancy.
  • Not recommended for use during breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, fatigue, and vision problems, so do not drive or operate machinery until the symptoms have disappeared.
  • Do not stop the medication suddenly; gradually reduce the dose as directed by your doctor, especially after long-term, high-dose treatment.
  • There is insufficient data on use in children and adolescents. Not recommended with methylphenidate for ADHD treatment.
