How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose and how long you need to take it. The dose may be adjusted if you weigh over 80 kg.

Method

A healthcare professional will give you this medicine once a day as a slow infusion directly into a vein, which takes about one hour.

The maximum daily dose is determined by your doctor and may be adjusted based on your weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired because of fewer red blood cells (anemia)
  • Fewer white blood cells
  • Low levels of protein (albumin) or potassium in your blood
  • Headache
  • Inflammation in a vein
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Diarrhea, feeling sick to your stomach (nausea), or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Changes in some blood test results, like higher liver values
  • Itching, rash, red skin, or sweating more than usual
  • Pain in your joints
  • Chills or fever
  • Itching or pain where the medicine was given
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
RARE
  • Other changes in blood tests, like problems with blood clotting, platelets, red or white blood cells
  • Not feeling hungry, swelling from extra fluid in your body
  • Too much or too little salt (electrolytes) or sugar in your blood (including calcium and magnesium)
  • Feeling confused, nervous, or having trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness, feeling less or more sensitive to touch, shaking, feeling tired, changes in taste, or tingling/numbness
  • Blurry vision, more tears, swollen eyelids, or yellowing of the white part of your eyes
  • Feeling your heart beat fast or unevenly, very fast heartbeat, or heart not pumping well (heart failure)
  • Redness, hot flashes, high blood pressure, or redness and soreness along a vein
  • Wheezing or coughing due to tight airways, fast breathing, waking up at night due to shortness of breath, not enough oxygen in your blood, unusual breathing sounds, crackling in lungs, blocked nose, or sore throat
  • Stomach pain, pain in upper stomach, bloated stomach, constipation, trouble swallowing, dry mouth, upset stomach, gas, or swelling from fluid in your belly
  • Less bile flow, enlarged liver, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), liver damage from medicine, or liver problems
  • Skin changes, general itching, hives, different types of rashes, or red, often itchy spots on your arms, legs, face, and body
  • Back pain, arm or leg pain, bone pain, muscle pain, or muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems, including sudden kidney failure
  • Pain or reactions at the site where the medicine is given (like redness, a hard lump, swelling, irritation, rash, or fluid leaking)
  • High blood pressure or other changes in blood tests (including kidney, salt, and clotting tests), or increased levels of medicines that weaken your immune system
  • Chest discomfort, chest pain, feeling like your body temperature has changed, generally feeling unwell, unspecific pain, swelling in face, ankles, hands or feet, tenderness, or feeling tired

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Caspofungin or any other medicines.
  • Let your doctor know if you have ever had liver problems, as your dose might need to be changed.
  • If you are taking cyclosporine or tacrolimus (medicines for organ transplants or to suppress your immune system), your doctor may need to order more blood tests.
  • Get medical help right away if you get a severe rash, itching, swelling of your face, lips or throat, or have trouble breathing. These could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • This medicine can cause very serious skin problems, like peeling skin or blisters. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice these symptoms.

  • If you are an adult with a severe lung infection called invasive aspergillosis, tell your doctor if you develop a bad cough or serious breathing problems, as this could lead to lung failure.
