How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose.

Method

Given once daily as a slow infusion into a vein, over about one hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 70 mg, as determined by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced hemoglobin (low red blood cell count)
  • Reduced white blood cell count
  • Reduced albumin (a type of protein) in blood
  • Low potassium levels in blood
  • Headache
  • Vein inflammation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
  • Changes in some blood test results, including increased liver values
  • Itching, rash, skin redness, or increased sweating
  • Joint pain
  • Chills, fever
  • Itching at the injection site
RARE
  • Changes in some blood test results, including blood clotting issues, and changes in platelet, red, and white blood cell counts
  • Loss of appetite, fluid buildup in the body, salt imbalance, high blood sugar, low or high blood calcium, low blood magnesium, increased acid in blood
  • Confusion, nervousness, inability to sleep
  • Dizziness, reduced sense of touch or skin sensitivity, trembling, drowsiness, changes in taste, tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision, increased tearing, swollen eyelids, yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats, rapid pulse, abnormal heart rhythm, heart failure
  • Redness, hot flashes, high or low blood pressure, redness and tenderness in the vein area
  • Wheezing or cough due to constricted airways, rapid breathing, shortness of breath at night, lack of oxygen in tissues, abnormal breath sounds, crackles in lungs, nasal congestion, sore throat
  • Abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, indigestion, gas, fluid buildup in the abdomen
  • Reduced bile flow, enlarged liver, yellowing of skin or eyes, liver damage or dysfunction
  • Skin changes, generalized itching, hives, various types of rashes, red and itchy spots on limbs, face, or body
  • Back pain, pain in limbs, bones, or muscles, muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems or sudden kidney failure
  • Pain or reactions at the injection site (redness, lump, swelling, irritation, rash, hives, fluid leakage from catheter, vein inflammation)
  • High blood pressure, changes in certain blood tests (kidney, electrolytes, clotting), increased levels of immunosuppressant medicines
  • Chest discomfort or pain, feeling of altered body temperature, general unwellness, vague pain, swelling of face, ankles, hands, or feet, tenderness, tiredness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to caspofungin or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other medicines.
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever had liver problems. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • If you are taking ciclosporin, your doctor may need to do more blood tests.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks, and you should not breastfeed while taking it.

  • Caspofungin Viatris can cause severe skin reactions, such as widespread rash, peeling skin, and sores in the mouth and eyes. Seek medical help immediately if you experience these.
