How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose, typically given once a day. Doses may vary for children, adolescents, or if you weigh over 80 kg.

Method

It is given as a slow drip into a vein, usually taking about one hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is typically 70 mg, but your doctor will determine the exact amount based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low hemoglobin and white blood cell count.
  • Low blood albumin or potassium levels.
  • Headache.
  • Inflammation in a vein.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.
  • Changes in liver blood tests.
  • Itching, rash, red skin, or increased sweating.
  • Joint pain.
  • Chills, fever.
  • Itching at the injection site.
  • Fast pulse (in children and adolescents).
  • Redness, low blood pressure (in children and adolescents).
  • Pain at the injection site (in children and adolescents).
RARE
  • Changes in blood tests (including red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, blood clotting).
  • Loss of appetite, fluid retention, salt imbalance, high blood sugar, abnormal calcium, magnesium, or acid levels in the blood.
  • Confusion, nervousness, trouble sleeping.
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling, shaking, drowsiness, changes in taste.
  • Blurred vision, increased tearing, swollen eyelids, yellowing of the whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, heart failure.
  • Redness, hot flashes, high or low blood pressure, tenderness in a vein.
  • Wheezing, cough, shortness of breath, stuffy nose, sore throat, abnormal breathing sounds.
  • Abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, gas, stomach problems, fluid build-up in the abdomen.
  • Reduced bile flow, enlarged liver, liver damage.
  • Skin changes, widespread itching, hives, various rashes, red, itchy bumps on the skin.
  • Back pain, limb pain, bone pain, muscle pain, muscle weakness.
  • Kidney problems, sudden kidney failure.
  • Pain at the injection site, irritation, swelling, or leakage from the catheter.
  • High blood pressure, changes in kidney, electrolyte, or coagulation tests, increased levels of immunosuppressive medicines.
  • Unpleasant chest feeling, chest pain, general unwellness, swelling in face, ankles, hands or feet, tiredness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to caspofungin or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itching, swelling of your face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing, as this could be an allergic reaction.
  • Caspofungin can cause severe skin reactions like peeling skin or blisters (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Inform your doctor if you have ever had liver problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Do not breastfeed if you are taking this medicine. Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
