How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine your daily dose. It is given once a day.

Method

This medicine is given by a healthcare professional as a slow infusion into a vein over about one hour.

Important

The doctor will decide the exact daily amount and treatment length. Doses may be adjusted if you weigh more than 80 kg, or for children and adolescents.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Low blood counts (low hemoglobin, low white blood cells)
  • Changes in some blood tests (e.g., liver function, potassium, albumin levels)
  • Inflamed vein
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Itching, rash, skin redness, or increased sweating
  • Joint pain
  • Chills
  • Pain or itching at the injection site
  • Fast heart rate (especially in children)
  • Flushing (especially in children)
  • Low blood pressure (especially in children)
RARE
  • More changes in blood tests (affecting blood clotting, platelets, red or white blood cells)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fluid buildup in the body
  • Problems with body salts or blood sugar (too high or too low)
  • Feeling confused, nervous, or having trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness, reduced sensation in skin, tremors, feeling sleepy, changes in taste, tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision, watery eyes, swollen eyelids, yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats, heart weakness
  • Hot flashes, high or low blood pressure, redness or soreness along a vein
  • Breathing difficulties (wheezing, cough, rapid breathing, low oxygen, abnormal sounds, stuffy nose, sore throat)
  • Stomach pain (upper, bloating), constipation, trouble swallowing, dry mouth, indigestion, gas
  • Reduced bile flow, enlarged liver, yellowing of skin or eyes, liver damage or problems
  • Skin changes (widespread itching, hives, various rashes, red patches)
  • Back, limb, bone, or muscle pain, muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems (not working well, sudden failure)
  • Pain or problems at the catheter/injection site (redness, swelling, irritation, rash, fluid leak)
  • Increased blood pressure, changes in kidney or clotting tests, higher levels of other medicines that weaken your immune system
  • Chest discomfort or pain, feeling that body temperature is off, general feeling of unwellness, unexplained pain, swelling of face, ankles, hands or feet, feeling tired or sore

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to caspofungin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had liver problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking ciclosporin, as you may need more blood tests during treatment.
  • This medicine can cause severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). Seek medical help if you develop a rash, peeling skin, or sores.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you have an allergic reaction, such as a rash, itching, swelling of your face/lips/throat, or trouble breathing.
