How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose, usually once a day. Your dose may be adjusted if you weigh over 80 kg.

Method

The medicine is given as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein over about one hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically up to 70 mg, but your doctor will determine your exact dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., liver function values)
  • Itching, rash, skin redness
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Chills
  • Pain at the injection site or catheter site
  • Shortness of breath
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Low blood pressure, flushing
  • Decreased hemoglobin or white blood cell count
  • Low blood potassium
  • Inflammation of a vein
  • Joint pain
RARE
  • Changes in blood tests, such as blood clotting disorders or platelet and red blood cell counts
  • Loss of appetite, fluid retention in the body
  • Dizziness, tremor, drowsiness
  • Blurred vision, eyelid swelling, yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • Irregular heartbeats, heart failure
  • Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, constipation, dry mouth
  • Enlarged liver, yellowing of skin and/or whites of eyes, liver damage
  • Back pain, muscle pain, bone pain, muscle weakness
  • Kidney failure, acute kidney failure
  • Chest discomfort or pain, general discomfort, fatigue, swelling of the face, ankles, hands, or feet

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Caspofungin Orion if you are allergic to caspofungin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had liver problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • If you are taking cyclosporine or tacrolimus, your doctor may need to order additional blood tests.
  • Caspofungin Orion can cause severe skin reactions, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice a rash, peeling skin, mouth sores, or hives.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions, including rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing.
