How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose, which is usually 50 mg or 70 mg.

Method

The medicine is given once a day as a slow drip (infusion) directly into a vein over about one hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose determined by your doctor is generally 70 mg, but the dose may be adjusted if needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Lower amount of a substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen (hemoglobin)
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Low levels of a protein in your blood (albumin)
  • Low potassium in your blood
  • Headache
  • Inflamed vein (phlebitis)
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Diarrhea, upset stomach, or throwing up
  • Changes in blood tests (including liver tests)
  • Itching, skin rash, red skin, or sweating more than usual
  • Joint pain
  • Chills, fever
  • Pain where the medicine was given
RARE
  • Changes in blood tests (including counts of red and white blood cells, platelets, or issues with blood clotting)
  • Not feeling like eating, fluid in the body, salt imbalance, high blood sugar, low calcium or magnesium
  • Feeling confused, nervous, or having trouble sleeping
  • Feeling dizzy, tingling, changes in taste, or less feeling in your skin
  • Blurred eyesight, more tears, swollen eyelids, yellowing of the whites of your eyes
  • Fast or uneven heartbeats, heart failure
  • Flushing, hot flashes, high or low blood pressure, painful red veins
  • Wheezing, cough, trouble breathing, stuffy nose, sore throat
  • Stomach pain, constipation, trouble swallowing, dry mouth, gas, swelling in the belly
  • Liver or kidney problems, yellowing of skin or eyes
  • Skin changes, hives, blisters, skin peeling
  • Back pain, pain in arms or legs, muscle pain, muscle weakness
  • Pain or irritation where the medicine was given or where a tube (catheter) is placed
  • Feeling generally unwell, swelling in your face, ankles, hands or feet, feeling tired

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to caspofungin or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had liver problems or are allergic to other medicines.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking ciclosporin (a medicine used to prevent organ rejection or weaken your immune system) or any other medicines that might interact with this one.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a severe skin reaction, such as a rash, peeling skin, or blisters (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
