How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose.

Method

It is given once a day as a slow infusion into a vein, which takes about one hour.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Doses for children might not be higher than 70 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low red or white blood cells
  • Changes in blood tests (like liver tests)
  • Headache
  • Vein inflammation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Itching, rash, red skin, or sweating more than usual
  • Joint pain
  • Chills, fever
  • Pain or itching where medicine is given
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
RARE
  • Other blood test changes (including blood cell types, clotting, kidney, and electrolytes)
  • Loss of appetite, fluid buildup in the body, salt imbalance, high blood sugar, low calcium or magnesium in blood, too much acid in blood
  • Feeling confused, nervous, or having trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness, strange skin sensations (like tingling or numbness), shaking, feeling sleepy, taste changes
  • Blurry vision, increased tears, swollen eyelids, yellow whites of eyes
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, heart failure
  • Flushing, hot flashes, high or low blood pressure, red and painful vein
  • Wheezing, cough, fast breathing, shortness of breath at night, low oxygen in blood, strange breathing sounds, crackling in lungs, stuffy nose, sore throat
  • Stomach pain (including upper part), bloating, constipation, trouble swallowing, dry mouth, indigestion, gas, stomach problems, fluid buildup in the belly
  • Poor bile flow, enlarged or damaged liver, yellow skin or eyes, liver problems
  • Skin changes (widespread itching, hives, various rashes, red itchy bumps)
  • Back, limb, bone, or muscle pain, muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems or sudden kidney failure
  • Pain or reactions where medicine is given (redness, lump, swelling, irritation, rash, hives, fluid leaking from catheter), vein inflammation at injection site
  • Higher levels of immunosuppressant medicines
  • Chest discomfort or pain, feeling body temperature changes, general unwellness, vague pain, swelling of face, ankles, hands or feet, tenderness, and feeling tired

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to caspofungin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had liver problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking ciclosporin or tacrolimus, as you might need more blood tests.
  • This medicine can cause serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome; tell your doctor immediately if you notice any severe skin changes.
  • Tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you have.
