Carveratio is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina pectoris), and as an add-on treatment for heart failure.

How to Use

Dosage

Typically, adults start with one 12.5 mg Carveratio tablet once daily for the first two days, then increase to two 12.5 mg tablets (total 25 mg) once daily for high blood pressure.

Method

Swallow tablets with at least half a glass of water. You can take them with or without food, but if you have heart failure, take them with food to reduce dizziness when standing up quickly. Tablets can be divided.

Important

The maximum daily dose for high blood pressure is 50 mg. For chest pain, it can be up to 100 mg, and for heart failure, it varies by weight.

  • Certain skin reactions (e.g., allergic rash, hives, itching, increased sweating, skin lesions resembling psoriasis)
  • Constipation
  • Impotence
  • Reduced platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Nasal congestion
  • Dry mouth
  • Reduced white blood cell count
  • Psychosis
  • Allergic reactions
  • Changes in liver function test values
  • Urinary incontinence in women
  • Hair loss
  • Beta-blockers may unmask latent diabetes
  • Heart rhythm problems like sinoatrial block (missing impulses from heart's pacemaker) in susceptible patients

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to carvedilol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have untreated or unstable heart failure, a very slow heart rate (below 50 beats per minute), very low blood pressure, or certain severe heart rhythm problems without a pacemaker.
  • Do not use if you have liver disease that causes problems.
  • Do not use if you have asthma, severe lung disease like COPD, or a blood clot in your lungs.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness or tiredness, especially at the start of treatment or with alcohol. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or weak.
  • If you have diabetes, Carveratio can hide signs of low blood sugar, so monitor your blood sugar regularly.
  • Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, and limit alcohol, as they can affect how Carveratio works and cause unpredictable side effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider potential interactions, especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
