How to Use

Dosage

Start with a low dose, usually 1.25 mg to 5 mg once daily, and your doctor will gradually increase it. The typical maintenance dose for many conditions is 10 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with water in the morning, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg once a day, but for heart failure, it's usually 10 mg a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness, dizziness, headache
  • Feeling weak (especially in people with chronic heart failure)
  • Cold or numb hands and feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Stomach or gut problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
RARE
  • Slow heart rate
  • Worsening heart failure
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Sleep problems, depression, nightmares, or hallucinations
  • Dizziness when standing up too quickly
  • Breathing difficulties (especially if you have asthma or chronic lung disease)
  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Hearing problems, reduced tear flow (dry eyes)
  • Liver problems (e.g., hepatitis, causing yellow skin or eyes) or abnormal blood tests
  • Allergic reactions like itching, redness, or rash; severe reactions (swelling of face/throat, breathing difficulties) require immediate medical attention.
  • Erection problems
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss
  • Worsening or appearance of scaly skin rash (psoriasis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe asthma.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe circulation problems in your arms or legs (like Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have certain serious heart conditions like acute heart failure, very slow or irregular heartbeat, or very low blood pressure (cardiogenic shock).
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, as this medicine is generally not recommended during these times.
