How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will start you on a low dose and slowly increase it; the usual daily dose is 10 mg.

Method

Take the tablet with water in the morning, with or without food, and do not crush or chew it.

Important

The maximum daily dose for high blood pressure or angina is 20 mg, but for heart failure or severe kidney/liver problems, it is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Worsening of heart failure
  • Feeling weak
  • Tiredness, dizziness, headache
  • Coldness or numbness in hands or feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Stomach or bowel problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Sleep problems
  • Depression
  • Dizziness when standing up
  • Breathing difficulties (especially if you have asthma or chronic lung disease)
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps
RARE
  • Hearing problems
  • Allergic runny nose (allergic rhinitis)
  • Reduced tear flow (which can be a problem if you wear contact lenses)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) causing yellowing of skin or eyes
  • Abnormal results in liver function or fat blood tests
  • Allergic reactions like itching, redness, or rash
  • Problems with erections
  • Nightmares, hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss
  • Worsening or new appearance of psoriasis or psoriasis-like rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Cardovia if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have severe asthma.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have very bad circulation problems in your arms or legs (like Raynaud's disease), which can make your fingers and toes tingle, turn white or blue.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have an untreated tumor on your adrenal gland (called phaeochromocytoma).
  • Do not take Cardovia if your body has too much acid (metabolic acidosis).

  • Do not take Cardovia if you have acute heart failure or if your heart failure is getting worse and requires special medicine given into a vein.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have a very slow or irregular heartbeat, or other severe heart rhythm problems.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have very low blood pressure or a severe heart problem that causes very low blood pressure and circulatory shock.
  • Never stop taking Cardovia suddenly without talking to your doctor, as your condition could get much worse.
