How to Use

Dosage

Treatment begins with a low dose, gradually increasing according to your doctor's instructions, for example, 1.25 mg once daily for one week, then 2.5 mg, and so on, up to a maintenance dose.

Method

Take the tablet with water in the morning, with or without food; do not crush or chew the tablet to avoid exposing yourself to the bitter-tasting active substance.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, but in specific cases (like heart failure or severe kidney/liver problems) it is no more than 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Slow heart rate (common in chronic heart failure patients)
  • Worsening of heart failure (common in chronic heart failure patients)
  • Feeling of weakness (in patients with chronic heart failure)
  • Tiredness, dizziness, headache
  • Coldness or numbness in hands or feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Digestive problems, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
RARE
  • Slow or irregular heartbeat
  • Feeling of weakness (in patients with chest pain or high blood pressure)
  • Sleep disorders
  • Depression
  • Dizziness when standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Breathing difficulties (in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease)
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps
  • Hearing problems
  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Reduced tear secretion
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) which can cause yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
  • Abnormal blood test results for liver function or fat levels
  • Allergy-like reactions such as itching, redness, rash
  • Impaired erection
  • Nightmares, hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Appearance or worsening of scaly skin rash (psoriasis); psoriasis-like rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Cardovia if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have severe asthma or severe chronic lung disease. Talk to your doctor if you develop new breathing difficulties, cough, or wheezing during exercise.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have a very slow or irregular heartbeat, or very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take Cardovia if your heart failure is suddenly worse or requires intravenous treatment.
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have severe circulation problems in your arms or legs, which can cause numbness, tingling, or color changes (e.g., Raynaud's syndrome).

  • Do not take Cardovia if you have an untreated tumor of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma).
  • Do not take Cardovia if you have too much acid in your body (metabolic acidosis).
  • If you feel dizzy, weak, or have breathing difficulties, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Do not take Cardovia with certain other heart medications (Class I antiarrhythmics; calcium antagonists like verapamil, diltiazem) or certain high blood pressure medications (like clonidine, methyldopa) unless specifically told by your doctor. Never stop these medications without consulting your doctor first.
  • Cardovia can harm your baby during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Cardovia.
  • Cardovia may affect your ability to drive or operate machines, especially at the start of treatment, when the dose is increased or changed, or with alcohol. Be careful.
  • Never stop taking Cardovia without talking to your doctor, as your condition could get much worse.
