How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. They will adjust the dose to control your blood pressure.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with liquid, usually in the morning. Do not chew or crush them.

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, feeling tired or weak.
  • Dizziness, especially when starting the medicine or increasing the dose.
  • Dry, irritating cough.
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., higher blood sugar, uric acid, or fats).
  • Sore, red, and swollen joints.
  • Skin rash or flushing.
  • Fainting or low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly.
  • Balance problems (feeling like you're spinning).
  • Itching or unusual skin feelings like numbness, tingling, or burning.
  • Change in taste or loss of taste.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Feeling depressed, anxious, nervous, or shaky.
  • Stuffy nose, sinus infection, or shortness of breath.
  • Gum inflammation or swollen mouth.
  • Red, itchy, swollen, or watery eyes.
  • Ringing in the ears.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Hair loss.
  • Chest pain.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Constipation, stomach pain, or upset stomach.
  • Urinating more often, increased sweating, or feeling thirsty.
  • Loss of appetite or feeling less hungry.
  • Faster or irregular heartbeats.
  • Swollen arms or legs (sign of fluid retention).
  • Fever.
  • Problems with sex (for men).
  • Lower levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, or hemoglobin (shown in blood tests).
  • Changes in liver, pancreas, or kidney function (shown in blood tests).
  • Lower potassium levels (shown in blood tests).
RARE
  • Nausea, diarrhea, or heartburn.
  • Red, swollen tongue or dry mouth.
  • Higher potassium levels (shown in blood tests).
  • Severe breathing problems (shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion).
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • Serious skin reactions, including rash, mouth sores, redness, blisters, or peeling skin.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats, chest pain, or symptoms of a heart attack or stroke.
  • Shortness of breath, cough, fever, and loss of appetite (signs of lung inflammation).
  • Easy bruising or bleeding, frequent infections, sore throat, fever, feeling tired, dizziness, or pale skin (signs of blood or bone marrow problems).
  • Severe stomach pain that spreads to your back (sign of pancreas inflammation).
  • Fever, chills, tiredness, loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea, or yellow skin/eyes (signs of liver problems).
  • Changes in finger or toe color when cold, then tingling and pain when warming up (Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Breast growth in men.
  • Blood clots.
  • Hearing problems.
  • Dry eyes.
  • Things looking yellow (yellow vision).
  • Dehydration.
  • Swelling, pain, and redness of the cheeks (salivary gland inflammation).
  • Intestinal swelling (angioedema) causing stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Severe skin peeling, itchy lumpy rash, or red rash on face/forehead.
  • Nail problems (e.g., nails coming loose).
  • Stiff muscles or bones, or muscle weakness/cramps.
  • Decreased sexual desire (men and women).
  • Blood in urine (sign of kidney problems).
  • Increased sugar in urine.
  • High levels of certain white blood cells (eosinophils) in blood tests.
  • Too few blood cells (pansytopenia) in blood tests.
  • Changes in blood salt levels (sodium, calcium, magnesium, chloride) in blood tests.
  • Dark urine, feeling unwell, muscle cramps, confusion, and seizures (may be due to a hormone problem).
  • Slowed or weakened reactions.
  • Changes in smell.
  • Breathing difficulties or worsening of asthma.
  • Non-melanoma skin or lip cancer.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to this medicine or its ingredients.
  • Stop taking and seek urgent medical help if you have swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • Tell your doctor if you have serious heart, liver, or kidney problems, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.

  • Tell your doctor if you have lost a lot of body fluids or salts (e.g., from severe vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating).
  • Seek urgent medical help if you suddenly have blurred vision or eye pain, as this could lead to lasting vision loss.
  • Protect your skin from the sun. Long-term use of this medicine might raise the risk of skin cancer.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
