How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Often, you start with 1.25 mg or 2.5 mg once a day.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with liquid at the same time each day. Do not crush or chew it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache or feeling tired
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting or low blood pressure (especially when standing up quickly)
  • Dry, irritating cough, sinusitis or bronchitis, shortness of breath
  • Stomach or gut pain, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea or vomiting
  • Rash, possibly with swelling
  • Chest pain
  • Muscle cramps or muscle pain
  • Higher than normal potassium in blood tests
RARE
  • Feeling confused or uncertain
  • Red and swollen tongue
  • Severe skin peeling or flaking, itchy lumpy rash
  • Nail problems
  • Rash or bruising
  • Spots on skin and cold limbs
  • Red, itchy, swollen or watery eyes
  • Hearing problems or ringing in the ears
  • Feeling weak
  • Lower red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, or hemoglobin in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Cardace if you are allergic to ramipril or any other ACE inhibitor.
  • Do not take Cardace if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction with swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema).
  • Do not take Cardace if you are pregnant (especially after the first 3 months) or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that affect your blood pressure or potassium levels, especially sacubitril/valsartan or aliskiren.

  • You may feel dizzy when you start taking Cardace or when your dose is increased. Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
