How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and how you respond to the medicine.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth, swallowing it whole.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the maximum dose; do not take more than prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Uncontrolled movements like twitching or spasms
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression, confusion, strange dreams
  • Slow movements ('on-off' effect), dizziness, tingling or numbness, feeling sleepy, sudden sleep attacks
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
RARE
  • Restlessness
  • Fainting
  • Hives
  • Muscle twitching
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Dementia, seizures
  • High blood pressure, vein inflammation
  • Stomach ulcer, dark urine, sweat, or saliva
  • Itching, red rash, hair loss
  • Compulsive use of the medicine, severe unusual uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia), mood changes
  • Skin cancer (melanoma)
  • Insomnia, anxiety, strong feeling of happiness (euphoria), confusion, teeth grinding
  • Weakened attention, bitter taste in mouth, headache, drooping eyelids, small pupils, stiff muscles, increased hand shaking, numbness
  • Double vision, blurred vision, dilated pupils, involuntary upward eye gaze, eyelid spasms
  • Hot flashes, flushing
  • Hoarseness, changes in breathing, hiccups
  • Dry mouth, increased saliva, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, constipation, gas, heartburn, burning tongue, increased sweating
  • Lockjaw (difficulty opening mouth), difficulty urinating, urinary incontinence, prolonged and painful erection
  • Swelling, difficulty walking, weight changes, falling

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to carbidopa, levodopa, or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have suspicious skin moles or have had skin cancer (melanoma).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently using certain medicines for depression called MAO inhibitors.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a type of glaucoma called narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart disease or have had a heart attack or irregular heartbeat.

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you very sleepy or cause sudden sleep episodes, so do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice unusual behaviors like gambling addiction, increased sex drive, compulsive buying, or binge eating.
