How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and how you respond to the medicine.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth, swallowing them. Avoid taking with protein-rich meals (e.g., meat, eggs, milk) as this can reduce the medicine's effect. Take regularly as instructed by your doctor.

Important

Your doctor will determine your appropriate maximum daily dose individually.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Involuntary movements like twitching or spasms
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling sad or depressed (sometimes with thoughts of harming oneself)
  • Confusion or strange dreams
  • Slow or changing movements ("on-off" effect)
  • Dizziness, tingling, numbness, or sudden sleepiness
  • Fast or uneven heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), or diarrhea
RARE
  • Feeling very restless or agitated
  • Fainting
  • Itchy rash (hives)
  • Muscle twitching (other than involuntary movements listed above)
  • Anemia (low red blood cells, causing paleness or tiredness)
  • Memory problems (dementia) or seizures
  • High blood pressure or inflamed veins
  • Stomach ulcer, darkened urine, sweat, or saliva
  • Itching, red skin rash, hair loss, or inflammation of blood vessels that can cause stomach or joint pain (Henoch-Schönlein purpura)
  • Strong urge to take more medicine than needed to control symptoms (dopamine dysregulation syndrome), severe abnormal involuntary movements (dyskinesia), or mood changes with high doses
  • New or worsening skin cancer (melanoma)
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia), feeling anxious, feeling overly happy (euphoria), confusion about time and place, grinding teeth
  • Reduced alertness, agitation, bitter taste in mouth, weakness, headache, drooping eyelids, small pupils (Horner's syndrome), increased hand tremors, numbness
  • Double vision, blurry vision, dilated pupils, eyes staring upward without control, eyelid spasms
  • Hot flashes or blushing
  • Hoarse voice, changes in breathing rhythm, hiccups
  • Dry mouth, increased saliva, trouble swallowing, stomach pain/discomfort, constipation, gas, heartburn, bloated stomach, burning sensation on the tongue
  • Increased sweating
  • Muscle spasms, difficulty opening mouth (lockjaw)
  • Trouble urinating, accidental leakage of urine (incontinence)
  • Long-lasting and painful erection
  • Weakness, general feeling of being unwell, swelling, tiredness, trouble walking, weight changes, increased falls
  • Strong urge to gamble excessively, increased sexual interest or behavior, uncontrolled excessive shopping, binge eating or compulsive eating

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to levodopa, carbidopa, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have suspicious skin moles that have not been checked by a doctor, or if you have had skin cancer.
  • Do not take if you are currently using certain medicines for depression called MAO inhibitors.
  • Do not take if you have a type of high eye pressure called narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Do not take if you have a tumor on your adrenal gland that causes high blood pressure attacks.

  • Do not take if you have certain hormonal problems (like too much cortisol or thyroid hormone).
  • Do not take if you have severe heart disease.
  • Tell your doctor about all your past and present health conditions, especially heart problems, severe lung or kidney/liver problems, hormonal problems, depression or mental health issues, ulcers, or seizures.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice you developing unusual urges or behaviors, such as strong urges to gamble, overeat, shop excessively, or have an increased sex drive.
  • This medicine can affect the results of some blood or urine tests, so tell your doctor if you are taking it before any tests.
  • Tell your doctor if you have taken levodopa before.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can cause severe drowsiness or sudden sleep. Do not drive or operate machinery until these symptoms have completely stopped.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine or reduce your dose without talking to your doctor first, as it can cause serious side effects like muscle stiffness, fever, or mood changes.
