How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and how you respond to the medicine; the dose may change during treatment.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not split the tablet. Try to avoid taking the medicine with protein-rich foods (like meat, eggs, milk, or cheese) as this can reduce its effectiveness.

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Confusion, dizziness, nightmares, drowsiness, tiredness, insomnia, feeling of well-being, changes in mood, unusual dreams.
  • Involuntary movements (dyskinesia), muscle spasms, sudden changes in Parkinson's symptoms ('on-off' effect), slow movements during 'on-off' periods (bradykinesia).
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations).
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure when standing up quickly, sometimes with dizziness or fainting (orthostatic hypotension).
  • Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, bitter taste.
RARE
  • Weight loss or weight gain.
  • Problems with muscle control (ataxia), increased hand tremor.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Hoarseness.
  • Constipation, diarrhea, gas.
  • Increased saliva, difficulty swallowing.
  • Swelling (edema).
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Dark urine.
  • Weakness, feeling unwell.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Blood disorders (low white blood cells, anemia, low platelets) that can cause infections, bruising, or bleeding.
  • Agitation, anxiety, impaired thinking, confusion, headache, increased sexual desire, numbness, seizures.
  • Severe mental health problems with loss of control over behavior.
  • Tingling, prickling, or itching sensations without clear cause (paresthesia).
  • Increased falls, problems walking, lockjaw.
  • Blurred vision, eye spasms (blepharospasm, possibly overdose sign), activated Horner's syndrome, double vision, dilated pupils, impaired eye movements.
  • Vein inflammation.
  • Shortness of breath, unusual breathing patterns.
  • Digestive problems (feeling full, stomach pain, burping, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach/intestinal pain, dark saliva, teeth grinding, hiccups, gastrointestinal bleeding, burning tongue, duodenal ulcer).
  • Severe itchy rash, hives, itching, facial redness, hair loss, increased sweating, dark sweat.
  • Allergy-related skin and gastrointestinal bleeding in children (Henoch-Schönlein purpura).
  • Urinary retention, involuntary urination, prolonged erection (priapism).
  • Drowsiness and continuous daytime tiredness or sudden sleep attacks (very rare).
  • Muscle twitching.
  • Compulsive urge to take higher doses than needed to relieve motor symptoms (dopaminergic dysregulation syndrome), potentially leading to severe involuntary movements, mood swings, or other side effects.
  • Uncontrolled urge to act on harmful impulses, such as: strong urge to gamble, changed or increased sexual interest, uncontrolled shopping, binge eating or compulsive eating.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to carbidopa, levodopa, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are using certain types of antidepressants called MAO inhibitors. You must stop taking these medicines at least two weeks before starting Carbidopa/Levodopa Fairmed.
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, which can cause a sudden increase in eye pressure.
  • Do not take if you have suspicious, undiagnosed skin lesions or a history of skin cancer.
  • Do not take if you have high blood pressure episodes caused by a tumor in the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).

  • Do not take if you have overproduction of cortisol or thyroid hormone.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart disease.
  • If you experience chest pain, stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience an uneven or irregular pulse or heart palpitations, stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience intestinal bleeding (blood in stool or dark stools), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience severe muscle stiffness, high fever, sweating, increased saliva, and confusion (neuroleptic malignant syndrome), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience changes in mental state, including hallucinations or depression (very rarely suicidal thoughts), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience seizures (convulsions), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience sudden swelling of the skin or mucous membranes (e.g., throat, tongue), difficulty breathing, itching, or rashes (allergic reaction called angioedema), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you experience a very severe blood disorder (lack of white blood cells) with sudden high fever, severe sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis), stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • Carbidopa/Levodopa Fairmed is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause drowsiness or sudden sleep attacks. If this happens, do not drive or use machines until these effects have stopped.
  • Do not stop taking or change your dose of Carbidopa/Levodopa Fairmed without talking to your doctor first. Stopping abruptly can lead to muscle stiffness, high fever, and mental changes.
