How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, which can change based on your condition and how you respond to the medicine.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not split it. Avoid taking the tablets with high-protein meals (like meat, eggs, milk, or cheese) as this can make the medicine less effective.

Important

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion, dizziness, nightmares, sleepiness, tiredness, insomnia, feeling of well-being (euphoria), dementia, agitation, abnormal dreams
  • Involuntary movements (dyskinesia), uncontrolled movements (chorea), muscle stiffness (dystonia), movement disorders not caused by nerves, sudden changes in Parkinson's symptoms (on-off effects), slow movements during off-periods (bradykinesia)
  • Palpitations (fast or strong heartbeat), irregular heartbeat
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure, for example when standing up too quickly from sitting or lying down, sometimes with dizziness (orthostatic hypotension), tendency to faint
  • Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, bitter taste
RARE
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Coordination problems (ataxia), increased hand tremor
  • High blood pressure
  • Hoarseness
  • Constipation, diarrhea, gas
  • Increased drooling, difficulty swallowing
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Darkening of urine
  • Weakness, lack of energy
  • Feeling unwell (malaise)
  • Hot flashes
  • Blood disorder (lack of white blood cells) with increased infection risk (leukopenia), anemia, blood disorder (lack of platelets) with bruising and bleeding tendency
  • Agitation, anxiety, impaired thinking, confusion about time and place, headache, increased sexual desire, impaired sense of touch, convulsions
  • Episodes of severe mental health problems with impaired behavioral control
  • Tingling, numbness, and itching sensations without an obvious cause (paresthesia)
  • Increased falls, walking difficulties, jaw lock (trismus)
  • Blurred vision, eye muscle spasms (blepharospasm, which can be a sign of overdose), activation of existing Horner's syndrome (eye disorder), double vision, dilated pupils, impaired eye movements
  • Vein inflammation (phlebitis)
  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea), abnormal breathing
  • Poor digestion and symptoms like feeling full in the upper abdomen, upper abdominal pain, burping, nausea, vomiting, heartburn (dyspepsia), stomach and intestinal pain, dark saliva, teeth grinding (bruxism), hiccups, stomach and intestinal bleeding, burning tongue, duodenal ulcers
  • Rash with severe itching and hives, itching, facial redness, hair loss, rash, increased sweating, dark sweat
  • Urine retention, involuntary urination, prolonged erection (priapism)
  • Sleepiness and constant daytime fatigue or sudden sleep attacks
  • Muscle twitching
  • Compulsive urge to use higher doses than needed to control motor symptoms (dopamine dysregulation syndrome). Some patients experience severe involuntary movements (dyskinesia), mood changes, or other side effects when taking large doses.
  • Uncontrolled urge to act on potentially harmful impulses, such as: strong urge to gamble excessively despite consequences, changed or increased sexual interest and behavior (e.g., increased sex drive that significantly bothers you or others), uncontrolled and excessive shopping or spending, binge eating (eating large amounts of food in a short time) or compulsive eating (eating more than normal and more than needed to feel full).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to carbidopa, levodopa, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are taking certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors (e.g., selegiline). You must stop taking these at least two weeks before starting Carbidopa/Levodopa Fairmed.
  • Do not use if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, which can cause sudden high pressure in your eye.
  • Do not use if you have undiagnosed skin lesions or a history of skin cancer.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure episodes caused by a tumor in your adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).

  • Do not use if you have overproduction of cortisol or thyroid hormones.
  • Do not use if you have a severe heart condition.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience chest pain.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience an uneven (irregular) pulse or fast heartbeat.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience bleeding in the gut, which can appear as bloody or dark stools.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience muscle stiffness, severe difficulty sitting still, high fever, sweating, increased drooling, and confusion (neuroleptic malignant syndrome).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience changes in mental state, including hallucinations and depression (very rarely suicidal thoughts).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience seizures (convulsions).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience sudden swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (e.g., in the throat and tongue), breathing difficulties and/or itching and rash, often as an allergic reaction (angioedema).
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience a very serious blood disorder (lack of white blood cells) with sudden high fever, severe sore throat, and mouth sores (agranulocytosis).
