  • Urinary tract infections

  • Uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia), muscle stiffness, 'on-off' effects of Parkinson's where movements change suddenly
  • Pounding heart (palpitations), irregular heartbeat
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure when standing, dizziness, fainting
  • Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, bitter taste
RARE
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Loss of coordination (ataxia), increased hand tremor
  • High blood pressure
  • Hoarseness
  • Constipation, diarrhea, gas
  • More saliva, trouble swallowing
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dark urine
  • Weakness, feeling unwell
  • Hot flashes
  • Blood disorders (low white blood cells, anemia, low platelets causing bruising and bleeding)
  • Agitation, anxiety, trouble thinking, confusion about time/place, headache, increased sexual desire, reduced sensation, seizures
  • Severe mental health episodes where you lose control of your behavior
  • Tingling, numbness, or prickling without a clear cause
  • More falls, walking problems, jaw lock
  • Blurred vision, eye spasms, worsening of Horner's syndrome, double vision, dilated pupils, weak eye movements
  • Vein inflammation
  • Shortness of breath, unusual breathing
  • Poor digestion, feeling full, upper stomach pain, burping, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach/bowel pain, dark saliva, teeth grinding, hiccups, stomach/bowel bleeding, burning tongue, duodenal ulcers
  • Severe itching and hives, itching, red face, hair loss, rash, more sweating, dark sweat
  • Allergy-related skin and digestive bleeding in children
  • Difficulty urinating, accidental urination, long-lasting erection
  • Drowsiness and constant daytime tiredness or sudden sleep attacks
  • Muscle twitching
  • Strong urge to take more medicine than needed, leading to uncontrolled movements, mood swings
  • Uncontrolled urges like gambling, increased sexual interest, excessive shopping, binge eating

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to carbidopa, levodopa, or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have certain types of depression medicines (MAOIs) or have taken them within the last two weeks.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (a sudden increase in eye pressure) or skin cancer.
  • Tell your doctor if you have serious heart, lung, liver, or kidney problems, or a history of stomach ulcers or mental health issues.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause serious side effects like muscle stiffness and fever.

  • Try to avoid taking this medicine with high-protein meals (like meat, eggs, milk, or cheese) as it may reduce the medicine's effect.
  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
