How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Try to take it at the same time each day. The tablet can be divided into equal doses.

Important

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of one tablet unless advised by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood test results, such as low sodium (may cause weakness, tiredness, muscle cramps).
  • Changes in blood test results, such as high or low potassium (may cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, or tingling).
  • Changes in blood test results, such as high cholesterol, sugar, or uric acid.
  • Sugar in your urine.
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, or feeling weak.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory tract infection.
  • Low blood pressure, which may make you feel weak or dizzy.
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, stomach irritation.
  • Rash, hives, or increased sensitivity to sunlight (sunburn more easily).
RARE
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or whites of eyes). Contact your doctor right away if this happens.
  • Kidney function problems, especially if you already have kidney or heart issues.
  • Sleep problems, depression, restlessness.
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet.
  • Temporary blurred vision.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Breathing problems (including lung inflammation and fluid in lungs).
  • Fever.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), causing moderate to severe stomach pain.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blood vessel damage, appearing as red or purple spots on the skin.
  • Lower numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets (may cause tiredness, infections, fever, or easy bruising).
  • Severe, fast-developing rash with peeling skin, blisters, and possibly mouth sores.
  • Worsening of existing lupus erythematosus or unusual skin reactions.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat.
  • Itching.
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain.
  • Liver function changes, including hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). May cause tiredness, yellowing of skin/eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in the gut), with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Cough.
  • Nausea.
  • Sudden short-sightedness.
  • Decreased vision or eye pain due to high pressure in the eye.
  • Systemic and cutaneous lupus erythematosus (an allergic condition causing fever, joint pain, skin rash with redness, blisters, peeling, and lumps).
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to sulfonamide medicines. If unsure, talk to your doctor.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. Avoid during early pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or bile duct blockage.

  • Do not use if you have persistently low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have persistently high calcium levels in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have ever had gout.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Get urgent medical help if you experience decreased vision or eye pain. These can be signs of serious eye problems that may lead to permanent vision loss if not treated.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or think you might be. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy as it can harm your baby.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines for high blood pressure, especially ACE inhibitors (like enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril).
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light while using this medicine, as it may increase the risk of certain skin and lip cancers. Tell your doctor if you have had skin cancer or notice any new skin changes.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking this medicine, especially if you have a history of lung problems after hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing with swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away if you have swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat that makes it hard to swallow.
  • Stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away if you have severe itchy skin with raised bumps.
  • Stop taking the medicine and get medical help right away if you develop acute respiratory distress (signs are severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
