How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, typically 8 mg once a day. For heart failure, typically 4 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 32 mg for adults. For children, the maximum daily dose depends on their weight (8 mg for under 50 kg, 16 mg for 50 kg or more).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or feeling light-headed
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection (e.g., common cold)
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak or dizzy
  • High potassium levels in your blood, especially if you have kidney or heart problems. This can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, or tingling.
  • Changes in kidney function, especially if you have existing kidney or heart problems.
RARE
  • Decrease in white or red blood cells. You might feel tired, get infections, or have a fever.
  • Rash or itchy rash (hives)
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis (liver inflammation). You might feel tired, have yellow skin/eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema), causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Nausea
  • Cough
  • Low sodium levels in your blood. If severe, you might feel weak, tired, or have muscle cramps.
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. Avoid during early pregnancy as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or a blocked bile duct.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.

  • Stop taking Candexetil and get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe itchy skin.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist you are taking Candexetil before any surgery, as it may lower your blood pressure during the procedure.
  • Do not stop taking Candexetil without talking to your doctor first.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
