How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical starting dose is 8 mg once daily for high blood pressure, or 4 mg once daily for heart failure. Your doctor may adjust the dose up to 32 mg daily based on your condition.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 32 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure (may cause weakness or dizziness)
  • High potassium levels in blood (can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling sensations)
  • Changes in kidney function (rarely, severe kidney failure)
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
  • Reduced numbers of red or white blood cells (may cause tiredness, infections, or fever)
  • Rash or hives
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis (may cause tiredness, yellowing of skin/eyes, or flu-like symptoms)
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Cough
  • Low sodium levels in blood (may cause weakness, lack of energy, or muscle cramps)
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Candexetil if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Candexetil if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid it during early pregnancy, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use Candexetil if you have severe liver disease or problems with the flow of bile from your gallbladder.
  • Do not give Candexetil to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not use Candexetil if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine that contains aliskiren.

  • Stop taking Candexetil and seek immediate medical help if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe skin itching (hives).
  • Contact your doctor if you experience stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after taking Candexetil.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist you are taking Candexetil before any surgery, as it can cause a significant drop in blood pressure when combined with anesthetics.
  • Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor while taking Candexetil, as alcohol can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Candexetil may cause dizziness or tiredness. If you feel this way, do not drive or operate machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
