How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a little water, and try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low sodium levels in blood, which can cause weakness, tiredness, or muscle cramps.
  • High or low potassium levels in blood, which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling.
  • High cholesterol, sugar, or uric acid levels in blood.
  • Sugar in urine.
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded.
  • Headache.
  • Chest infection (respiratory infection).
RARE
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause weakness or dizziness.
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, or upset stomach.
  • Skin rash, itchy bumps (hives), or rash from sunlight.
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) – contact your doctor right away if this happens.
  • Changes in kidney function.
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling sad (depression), or restlessness.
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet.
  • Temporary blurry vision.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Breathing problems, including lung inflammation or fluid in the lungs.
  • Fever.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), causing stomach pain.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Red or purple spots on the skin from damaged blood vessels.
  • Reduced numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, which can cause tiredness, infections, fever, or easy bruising.
  • Severe, fast-developing skin rash with peeling or blisters, possibly with sores in the mouth.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat (allergic reaction) – seek doctor immediately.
  • Itching.
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain.
  • Liver problems (hepatitis), which can cause tiredness, yellow skin or eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Cough.
  • Nausea.
  • Acute breathing difficulty (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion).
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).
  • Sudden nearsightedness.
  • Decreased vision or eye pain due to high pressure in the eye.
  • An allergic condition called systemic and cutaneous lupus erythematosus, causing fever, joint pain, and a rash with redness, blisters, or scaling.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil, hydrochlorothiazide, any other ingredient in this medicine, or to sulfonamide medicines.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, and avoid use during early pregnancy as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney or liver problems, or a bile duct blockage.
  • Do not use if you have persistently low potassium, high calcium, a history of gout, or if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren.
  • This medicine can increase the risk of skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer) with long-term, high-dose use. Protect your skin from sun and UV light while taking this medicine.

  • If you have had breathing issues or fluid in your lungs after taking hydrochlorothiazide, or develop severe breathing problems after taking this medicine, seek immediate medical help.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience decreased vision or eye pain, which could lead to permanent vision loss if untreated. The risk is higher if you have penicillin or sulfonamide allergy.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
