How to Use

Dosage

Typically 8 mg once daily for high blood pressure or 4 mg once daily for heart failure; your doctor may adjust your dose.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. Tablets can be split in half.

Important

Maximum of 32 mg once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak or dizzy
  • High potassium levels in your blood, which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling
  • Changes in kidney function, including rarely kidney failure, especially if you already have kidney problems or heart failure
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may make swallowing difficult
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, which can cause tiredness, infections, or fever
  • Skin rash, itchy lumpy rash (hives), or itching
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause tiredness, yellow skin or eyes, and flu-like symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Low sodium levels in your blood, which can cause weakness, lack of energy, or muscle cramps
  • Cough
  • Swelling in your intestines (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you plan to become pregnant.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or problems with bile drainage from your gallbladder.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year of age.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.

  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery, as this medicine with some anesthetics can cause a severe drop in blood pressure.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy; if so, do not drive or use tools/machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
