How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 8 mg once daily for high blood pressure or 4 mg once daily for heart failure; dosage may be adjusted by your doctor. For children aged 6-18, the usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 4 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with or without food, swallow it whole with water. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is typically 32 mg, but your doctor will decide the right dose for you. For children, the maximum dose depends on their weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory tract infection
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel tired or dizzy
  • Changes in blood test results, such as too much or too little potassium in your blood (especially if you have kidney or heart problems), which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling
  • Changes in kidney function, which in very rare cases can lead to kidney failure
  • Sore throat (more common in children)
RARE
  • Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, which can make you feel tired, get infections, or have a fever
  • Rash, hives (itchy bumps), or itching
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause tiredness, yellow skin/eyes, or flu-like symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Changes in blood test results, such as low sodium in your blood, which can cause weakness, lack of energy, or muscle cramps
  • Cough
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid this medicine in early pregnancy as it may harm your baby.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems or blockage of the bile ducts (gallbladder drainage issues).
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year of age.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine called aliskiren.

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a severe itchy rash.
  • This medicine may reduce your white blood cells, which can make you tired, get infections, or have a fever. Contact your doctor if this happens.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, are on dialysis, recently had a kidney transplant, have severe vomiting or diarrhea, low blood pressure, had a stroke, or have a specific adrenal gland condition (Conn's syndrome).
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery, as this medicine may lower your blood pressure when combined with certain anesthetics.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first, as your blood pressure may rise again.
  • Alcohol can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause tiredness or dizziness. If this happens, do not drive or use tools or machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
