How to Use

Dosage

Usually 8 mg once daily for high blood pressure. For heart failure and children (6-18 years old), the starting dose is 4 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

Maximum 32 mg once daily for adults. For children, maximum 8 mg for those under 50 kg and 16 mg for those 50 kg or over, once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory tract infection
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or faintness
  • Changes in blood potassium levels (high or low), which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling, especially if you have kidney or heart disease.
  • Effects on kidney function, especially if you already have kidney or heart disease. Very rarely, kidney failure can occur.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, which can cause tiredness, infections, or fever
  • Rash or hives (itchy skin rash)
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including liver inflammation (hepatitis). You might feel tired, have yellow skin and eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Nausea
  • Decrease in blood sodium levels. Severe cases can cause weakness, lack of energy, and muscle cramps.
  • Cough
  • Intestinal swelling (angioedema): symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. Also avoid during early pregnancy, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or blocked bile ducts.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 1 year of age.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney disease and are taking another blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.

  • Stop taking and get immediate medical help if you have trouble breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat (making it hard to swallow), or severe itching with raised bumps on your skin. These are signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • This medicine can reduce white blood cells. This might make you feel tired or get infections or fever more easily. Contact your doctor if this happens.
  • This medicine may cause tiredness or dizziness. If you feel this way, do not drive or use machines.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first, as your blood pressure may rise if you stop too quickly.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
