How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual dose is 8 mg once daily, and can be increased up to 32 mg. For heart failure, the starting dose is 4 mg once daily, and can be increased up to 32 mg. For children (6-18 years), the starting dose is 4 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Important

For adults, maximum 32 mg once daily. For children weighing less than 50 kg, maximum 8 mg once daily. For children weighing 50 kg or more, maximum 16 mg once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, weakness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure
  • Changes in blood potassium levels (may cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling)
  • Changes in kidney function (rarely kidney failure)
  • Sore throat, runny nose, fever, fast heartbeat (in children)
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells (may cause tiredness, infections, fever)
  • Skin rash or hives
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis (may cause tiredness, yellow skin and eyes, flu-like symptoms)
  • Nausea
  • Decrease in blood sodium levels (may cause weakness, lack of energy, muscle cramps)
  • Cough
  • Intestinal angioedema (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and get immediate medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction: swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe itching.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have been pregnant for more than 3 months or are planning to become pregnant (not recommended during early pregnancy).
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or bile duct blockage.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year old.

  • Talk to your doctor before use if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had severe vomiting or diarrhea recently, or if you have low blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are scheduled for surgery requiring anesthesia.
  • Some people may feel tired or dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel tired or dizzy.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
