How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is 8 mg once a day for high blood pressure.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor may increase your dose up to a maximum of 32 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy or light-headed.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory infection.
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak or dizzy.
  • High levels of potassium in your blood, which can cause tiredness, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Problems with kidney function.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, causing tiredness, infection, or fever.
  • Skin rash or itchy bumps (hives).
  • Itching.
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain.
  • Liver problems, including hepatitis, which can cause tiredness, yellow skin or eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Swelling in the intestines (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea).
  • Cough.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Low levels of sodium in your blood, which can cause weakness, tiredness, or muscle cramps.
  • Diarrhea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can seriously harm your baby. Avoid use during early pregnancy.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease or problems with bile flow (gallbladder issues).
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a medicine called aliskiren.

  • Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, recently had a kidney transplant, severe vomiting or diarrhea, very low blood pressure, or have had a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are going to have surgery, as this medicine can cause a big drop in blood pressure with some anesthetics.
  • Alcohol can make you feel dizzy or light-headed while taking this medicine; discuss with your doctor.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy while taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
