How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, adults usually start with 8 mg once a day. Your doctor might increase this to 16 mg or 32 mg once a day. For heart failure, the usual starting dose is 4 mg once a day, which can be slowly increased up to 32 mg.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time every day to help you remember.

Important

The highest daily dose for adults is 32 mg once a day. For children who weigh 50 kg or more, the highest daily dose is 16 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy or a spinning sensation
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection (like a cold)
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak or dizzy
  • Higher potassium levels in your blood, especially if you have kidney or heart problems. This can make you feel tired, weak, or have an irregular heartbeat or tingling.
  • Kidney problems, especially if you already have kidney or heart problems. Rarely, this can lead to kidney failure.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Lower numbers of red or white blood cells. This can make you feel tired, lead to infections, or cause fever.
  • Skin rash or bumpy rash (hives)
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Liver problems, including liver inflammation (hepatitis). You might feel tired, have yellow skin and eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Swelling in the gut (intestinal angioedema), causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Cough
  • Nausea (feeling sick to your stomach)
  • Lower sodium levels in your blood. If severe, this can make you feel weak, tired, or have muscle cramps.
  • Diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid it in early pregnancy as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe liver disease or a blocked bile duct (problems with bile draining from your gallbladder).
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, are on dialysis, recently had a kidney transplant, have been vomiting a lot or had severe diarrhea, have a rare adrenal gland condition (Conn's syndrome), have low blood pressure, or have had a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other high blood pressure medicines, especially ACE inhibitors (like enalapril), particularly if you have diabetes and kidney problems.
  • If you are having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Candesartan Krka, as it can cause a large drop in blood pressure with some anesthetics.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy. If this happens, do not drive or use machines.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, with difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe itching with a rash.
  • This medicine can lower your white blood cell count, making you more likely to get infections, feel tired, or have a fever. If this happens, see your doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
