How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, start with 8 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase this to 16 mg or up to 32 mg daily. For heart failure, start with 4 mg once a day, and your doctor may increase it every two weeks up to 32 mg daily. For children aged 6-18 with high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 4 mg once daily.

Method

Take your tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 32 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory infection (like a cold).
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak or dizzy.
  • High levels of potassium in your blood, especially if you have kidney or heart problems. This can make you feel tired, weak, or have an irregular heartbeat or tingling.
  • Changes in how your kidneys work. Rarely, this can lead to kidney failure.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • A decrease in red or white blood cells. This might make you feel tired, get infections, or have a fever.
  • Skin rash or itchy bumps (hives).
  • Itching.
  • Back pain, joint pain, or muscle pain.
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis (liver inflammation). You might feel tired, have yellow skin or eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Swelling in your gut (intestines) with symptoms like stomach pain, feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Low levels of sodium in your blood. If severe, this can make you feel weak, tired, or have muscle cramps.
  • Cough.
  • Diarrhea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients in the tablets.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid it in early pregnancy.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems or blocked bile ducts (where bile cannot flow out of your gallbladder).
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year old.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems AND are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, or a severe itchy skin rash.
  • This medicine can lower your white blood cells, which might make you feel tired, get infections easily, or have a fever. If this happens, tell your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery, as this medicine can cause very low blood pressure when mixed with some anesthetic medicines.
  • Alcohol can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded while taking this medicine. Talk to your doctor about drinking alcohol.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired or dizzy. Do not drive or use tools or machines if you feel this way.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
