How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 8 mg once daily. For heart failure, the usual starting dose is 4 mg once daily. Your doctor may adjust your dose.

Method

Take with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 32 mg once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or spinning sensation
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure (may make you feel weak or dizzy)
  • Increased potassium in your blood (may cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling)
  • Changes in kidney function (rarely, kidney failure, especially if you already have kidney or heart problems)
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells (may cause tiredness, infections, or fever)
  • Rash or hives
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis (may cause tiredness, yellow skin/eyes, or flu-like symptoms)
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Decreased sodium in your blood (may cause weakness, tiredness, or muscle cramps)
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea (frequency unknown)

Important Warnings

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe itching with raised lumps, as these could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant (it's also best to avoid in early pregnancy).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease or a blockage in your bile ducts.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 1 year old.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another blood pressure-lowering medicine called aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, or are on dialysis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first, as your blood pressure may rise.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
