How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 8 mg once a day. For heart failure, it's 4 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose.

Method

Take one tablet with or without food, swallowed with water, once a day, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 32 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or feeling light-headed
  • Headache
  • Respiratory infection
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak and dizzy
  • High potassium levels in the blood, which can cause tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, or tingling
  • Kidney problems, rarely leading to kidney failure
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, causing tiredness, infections, or fever
  • Skin rash or hives
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Liver problems, including hepatitis (liver inflammation), causing tiredness, yellow skin/eyes, and flu-like symptoms
  • Swelling in the gut (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, causing weakness, tiredness, or muscle cramps
  • Cough

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver or kidney problems, or if you have diabetes and are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year old.
  • Inform your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery, as this medicine can cause a big drop in blood pressure with some anesthetics.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
