Candemox Comp is used to treat high blood pressure in adults; it contains candesartan cilexetil and hydrochlorothiazide, which work together to lower blood pressure.

How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

One tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decrease in blood sodium levels (weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps).
  • Changes in blood potassium levels (fatigue, weakness, irregular heart rhythm, tingling).
  • Increased blood cholesterol, sugar, or uric acid levels.
  • Sugar in urine.
  • Dizziness or weakness.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory tract infection.
RARE
  • Low blood pressure (weakness, dizziness).
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, stomach irritation.
  • Rash, nettle rash (urticaria), photosensitivity rash.
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes).
  • Impaired kidney function.
  • Sleep disturbances, depression, restlessness.
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet.
  • Temporary blurred vision.
  • Abnormal heart rhythm.
  • Breathing difficulties (including pneumonia and fluid in the lungs).
  • Fever.
  • Pancreatitis (abdominal pain).
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blood vessel damage (red or purple spots on the skin).
  • Decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets (fatigue, infections, bruising).
  • Severe rash (skin peeling, blistering, mouth blisters).
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat.
  • General itching.
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain.
  • Impaired liver function, hepatitis (fatigue, yellowing of skin/eyes, flu-like symptoms).
  • Cough.
  • Nausea.
  • Intestinal angioedema (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
  • Sudden nearsightedness.
  • Impaired vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure.
  • Systemic and cutaneous lupus erythematosus (fever, joint pain, rash).
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Candemox Comp if you are allergic to its active ingredients (candesartan cilexetil or hydrochlorothiazide), any other ingredients, or to sulfonamide medicines.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or severe kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you are more than three months pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as the medicine can harm your baby.
  • Talk to your doctor before use if you have heart, liver, or kidney problems, have had a kidney transplant, have diabetes, gout, low blood pressure, SLE (lupus), or have had a stroke.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have persistently low potassium or high calcium levels in your blood.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have an adrenal gland condition (Conn's syndrome) or have recently had severe vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had breathing difficulties or lung problems after taking hydrochlorothiazide. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe shortness of breath after taking Candemox Comp.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines, such as ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril) or aliskiren, especially if you have diabetes-related kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had skin cancer or new skin lesions during treatment. Protect your skin from sunlight while taking Candemox Comp.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop impaired vision or eye pain, as these can be signs of fluid accumulation in the eye or high eye pressure, potentially leading to permanent vision loss.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
