How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 8 mg once a day. For heart failure, it usually starts at 4 mg once a day. For children, the starting dose is 4 mg once a day.

Method

Take the tablet with water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 32 mg once a day. For children weighing less than 50 kg, the maximum is 8 mg; for children 50 kg or more, it is 16 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory infection.
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel weak and dizzy.
  • Higher potassium levels in your blood, especially if you have kidney disease or heart failure. Symptoms can include tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling.
  • Changes in kidney function, especially if you have kidney disease or heart failure. In very rare cases, kidney failure may occur.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can make it hard to breathe or swallow. Severe itchy skin (hives).
  • Decrease in white or red blood cells, which can make you feel tired, get infections, or have a fever.
  • Skin rash or bumpy rash (hives).
  • Itching.
  • Back, joint, or muscle pain.
  • Changes in how your liver works, including liver inflammation (hepatitis). Symptoms can include tiredness, yellowing of skin/eyes, and flu-like symptoms.
  • Nausea.
  • Lower sodium levels in your blood. If severe, this can cause weakness, lack of energy, or muscle cramps.
  • Cough.
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema), with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Diarrhea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby. Avoid use during early pregnancy too. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to be.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or problems with bile drainage from your gallbladder.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Do not give Candemox to children younger than 1 year old.

  • Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Candemox if you are going to have surgery, as it can cause a large drop in blood pressure with some anesthetics.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
