How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose is 8 mg once daily for high blood pressure, and 4 mg once daily for heart failure.

Method

Take the tablet with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 32 mg. For children, it varies from 8 mg to 16 mg, depending on weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Respiratory tract infection
  • Low blood pressure, causing weakness and dizziness
  • Increased potassium in the blood, causing tiredness, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or tingling (especially with kidney problems or heart failure)
  • Changes in kidney function, including very rarely kidney failure (especially with existing kidney problems or heart failure)
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Decrease in red or white blood cells, causing tiredness, infections, or fever
  • Skin rash or hives
  • Itching
  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Changes in liver function, including hepatitis, causing tiredness, yellowing of skin/eyes, and flu-like symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Decreased sodium in the blood, causing weakness, tiredness, or muscle cramps
  • Cough
  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in the gut) with symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant (it is also best to avoid Candemox in early pregnancy).
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or bile duct obstruction.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year of age.

  • Stop taking Candemox and seek immediate medical help if you experience difficulty breathing with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe itching with raised rashes.
  • If you are going to have surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Candemox, as it can cause a significant drop in blood pressure when combined with some anesthetics.
  • Candemox may cause tiredness or dizziness; do not drive or operate machinery if you feel these effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
