Cabazitaxel Fresenius Kabi is used to treat advanced prostate cancer that has progressed despite previous chemotherapy, and it works by stopping cancer cells from growing and multiplying.

How to Use

Dosage

Your usual dose depends on your body surface area, which your doctor will calculate to determine the amount you need.

Method

Cabazitaxel Fresenius Kabi is given as an intravenous drip (infusion) into a vein in the hospital, lasting about one hour.

Important

You usually receive one infusion every three weeks; there is no daily maximum dose as it's administered intermittently.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased red blood cells (anemia) or white blood cells (important for fighting infections).
  • Decreased platelet count (leading to increased risk of bleeding).
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia).
  • Stomach problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.
  • Back pain.
  • Blood in urine.
  • Tiredness, weakness, and lack of energy.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Cough.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Temporary hair loss (hair growth usually returns to normal in most cases after treatment ends).
  • Joint pain.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Lack of white blood cells with fever and infection.
  • Numbness, tingling, burning, or reduced sensation in hands and feet.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Increased or decreased blood pressure.
  • Stomach discomfort, heartburn, or burping.
  • Hemorrhoids.
  • Muscle spasms.
  • Painful or frequent urination.
  • Urinary incontinence.
  • Kidney disease or problems.
  • Sores in mouth or on lips.
  • Infections or risk of infection.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Insomnia.
  • Confusion.
  • Feeling of restlessness.
  • Abnormal sensations, numbness, or pain in hands and feet.
  • Balance problems.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Blood clot in leg or lung.
  • Feeling of flushed skin.
  • Pain in mouth or throat.
  • Rectal bleeding.
  • Muscle problems, aches, weakness, or pain.
  • Swelling of feet or legs.
  • Chills.
  • Nail disorder (change in nail color; nails may fall off).
RARE
  • Low blood potassium.
  • Ringing in ears.
  • Hot flush.
  • Skin redness.
  • Bladder inflammation, which can occur if the bladder was previously exposed to radiation therapy (radiation recall cystitis).
  • Interstitial lung disease (lung inflammation causing cough and breathing difficulties).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to cabazitaxel, other taxanes, polysorbate 80, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if your white blood cell count is too low (neutrophil count of 1,500/mm³ or less).
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you have recently received or are about to receive a yellow fever vaccine.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a fever. This medicine can lower your white blood cell count, increasing the risk of serious infections. Fever can be an early sign of infection.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had allergies, as severe allergic reactions can occur during cabazitaxel treatment.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have severe or prolonged diarrhea, feel sick (nausea), or vomit, as this can lead to severe dehydration.
  • Tell your doctor if your hands or feet feel numb, tingle, burn, or have reduced sensation.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have intestinal bleeding, changes in stool color, or stomach pain, as severe bleeding or pain may lead to discontinuation of treatment due to increased risk of bleeding or bowel perforations.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine, severe nausea, or vomiting, as these can be signs of liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you notice a significant increase or decrease in your daily urine output.
  • Tell your doctor if you have blood in your urine.
