How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your body size.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine as a drip into a vein, usually taking about one hour in the hospital. You will also take a corticosteroid medicine by mouth every day.

Important

You will typically receive one infusion every three weeks.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased red or white blood cells (which fight infections)
  • Decreased platelets (increasing bleeding risk)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Stomach problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Back pain
  • Blood in urine
  • Tiredness, weakness, and lack of energy
RARE
  • Changes in taste
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Stomach pain
  • Temporary hair loss (hair usually grows back after treatment)
  • Joint pain
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Low white blood cells with fever and infection
  • Numbness, tingling, burning, or reduced sensation in hands and feet
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increased or decreased blood pressure
  • Stomach discomfort, heartburn, or burping
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Muscle spasms
  • Painful or frequent urination
  • Urine leakage
  • Kidney disease or problems
  • Sores in mouth or on lips

  • High blood sugar

  • Restlessness or anxiety
  • Abnormal sensations, numbness, or pain in hands and feet

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat

  • Muscle problems, aching, weakness, or pain
  • Swelling of feet or legs

  • Nail problems (color changes; nails may fall off)
  • Low blood potassium
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Feeling of warmth in the skin
  • Redness of skin
  • Bladder inflammation, especially if the bladder has been exposed to radiation therapy before
  • Interstitial lung disease (lung inflammation causing cough and breathing difficulties)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to cabazitaxel, other taxane medicines, polysorbate 80, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if your white blood cell count is too low (less than 1500/mm³). Tell your doctor right away if you have a fever, as it could mean an infection due to low white blood cells.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems. Tell your doctor if your skin or eyes turn yellow, your urine gets dark, or you feel very sick and vomit a lot, as these can be signs of liver issues.
  • Do not use if you have recently had or are about to get a yellow fever vaccine.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have severe or long-lasting diarrhea, feel very sick (nausea), or are vomiting. These can cause serious dehydration and you may need medical help.

  • Tell your doctor if your hands or feet feel numb, tingly, burning, or if you have less feeling in them.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bleeding in your gut, your stool color changes, or you have stomach pain. If it's bad, your doctor might stop this treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or notice a big change in how much you pee each day, or if there's blood in your pee.
  • This medicine might make you feel tired or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines until you feel normal again.
  • This medicine should not be used if you are pregnant or by women who can get pregnant and are not using birth control. Men treated with this medicine should use condoms during sex and for 6 months after treatment. They should also talk to their doctor about storing sperm before treatment, as this medicine can affect male fertility.
