How to Use

Dosage

Adults: 400–600 mg, 3–4 times a day.

Method

Take tablets with water. You can take them with food to help avoid stomach upset.

Important

Do not take more than 3200 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • More bruising or nosebleeds
  • Feeling down or sleepy
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Worsening heart problems (more swelling or shortness of breath)
  • Swelling in your legs and arms
  • Heartburn, stomach ache, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Hives, itchy skin, or strong swelling of skin or moist areas (mucous membranes)
RARE
  • Feeling restless, confused, having nightmares, seeing or hearing things that aren't there, feeling paranoid, or having trouble sleeping
  • Tingling or "pins and needles" feeling in the skin without a clear reason
  • Mouth sores, stomach or bowel ulcers, bleeding from the stomach or bowel, or bloody stools
  • Low number of platelets (which can cause more bruising or nosebleeds)
  • Low number or loss of white blood cells (which can be linked to unexplained fever, flu-like symptoms, or sore throat)
  • Blurred vision or changes to the clear front part of the eye (cornea)
  • Brain membrane inflammation (meningitis, especially in people with certain connective tissue diseases)
  • Hearing loss
  • Worsening symptoms of heart artery disease (more chest pain) or irregular heartbeats
  • Shortness of breath or worsening asthma
  • Holes in the digestive tract, worsening bowel inflammation (ulcerative colitis), inflammation of salivary glands or pancreas
  • Higher liver enzyme levels, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), or liver inflammation (may cause upper stomach pain)
  • Severe skin reactions with peeling or blisters, sensitivity to light, worsening acne or psoriasis, hair loss, or SLE (a disease affecting many body parts)
  • Worsening kidney function
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Narrowing of the intestines

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have a stomach ulcer, stomach bleeding, or a history of these.
  • Do not use if you have severe heart failure.
  • Do not use if you are in the last three months of pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other similar pain relievers.
  • Stop use and seek immediate medical help if you get chest pain, severe skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling in your face, tongue, or throat.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
