How to Use

Dosage

For adults and adolescents over 12 years: Take 1-2 tablets (200 mg strength) or 0.5-1 tablet (400 mg strength), 1 to 3 times per day as needed.

Method

Take tablets with a glass of water. Taking them with food can help prevent stomach upset.

Important

Do not take more than 1200 mg (for example, 6 x 200 mg tablets or 3 x 400 mg tablets) in 24 hours. Always use the smallest dose for the shortest time needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • More bruising or nosebleeds
  • Feeling down or sleepy
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Worsening heart problems (more swelling or trouble breathing)
  • Swelling in arms and legs
  • Heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Hives, itchy skin, or severe swelling of skin or mouth lining
RARE
  • Feeling nervous, confused, having nightmares, blurry vision, or trouble sleeping
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Mouth sores, stomach or gut ulcers and bleeding, or bloody stools
  • Fewer blood platelets, leading to more bruising or nosebleeds
  • Fewer white blood cells, possibly causing unexplained fever, flu-like symptoms, or sore throat
  • High potassium levels in the blood
  • Blurry vision or changes in the eye
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the brain (meningitis), especially in people with certain connective tissue diseases
  • Hearing loss
  • Worsening heart disease (more chest pain) or irregular heartbeats
  • Worsening shortness of breath or asthma
  • Holes in the gut, worsening inflammatory bowel disease, or inflammation of salivary glands/pancreas
  • Liver problems like increased liver enzymes, yellow skin (jaundice), or liver inflammation
  • Severe skin reactions (scaling, blisters, increased sensitivity to light, worsening acne/psoriasis, hair loss, lupus-like symptoms)
  • Kidney problems
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Narrowing of the intestines

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ibuprofen, similar pain relievers (NSAIDs), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a stomach ulcer, bleeding in your stomach or gut, or a hole in your gut.
  • Do not use if you have severe heart failure.
  • Do not use during the last three months of pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you have asthma and are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs.

  • Stop taking this medicine and call a doctor right away if you get severe skin rashes, blisters, or peeling skin (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have signs of an allergic reaction like trouble breathing, swelling of your face or throat, or chest pain.
  • Taking high doses for a long time might slightly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Do not take more than recommended.
  • This medicine can hide signs of infection, such as fever and pain, which could delay proper treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
