How to Use

Dosage

One 150 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose to 300 mg once a day if your depression does not improve.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water in the morning. You can take it with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 300 mg, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Difficulty sleeping.
  • Headache.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Dizziness.
  • Sweating, skin rash, itching.
  • Shaking or tremor.
  • Anxiety, feeling agitated.
  • Stomach pain, constipation.
  • Fast heartbeat.
  • Weight loss.
RARE
  • Seizures or convulsions.
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., severe rash, swelling, breathing difficulties).
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (may be a sign of liver problems).
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Feeling unreal, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), or false beliefs (delusions).
  • Muscle twitching, stiffness, or uncontrolled movements.
  • Memory loss, confusion, restlessness.
  • Changes in blood sugar levels.
  • Low sodium levels in the blood.
  • Stuttering.

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to bupropion or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you are taking other medicines that contain bupropion.
  • If you have epilepsy or have had seizures.
  • If you have a brain tumor.
  • If you suddenly stop drinking alcohol or taking sedatives.

  • If you have severe, long-lasting liver disease.
  • If you have or have had an eating disorder, like bulimia or anorexia.
  • If you are taking or have recently taken antidepressants called MAOIs. You must wait at least 14 days after some MAOIs, or 24 hours after others, before starting Bupropion Sandoz. Ask your doctor.
  • If you have a seizure while taking this medicine, stop immediately and contact your doctor.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to a hospital right away.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, unless your doctor tells you to.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider risk of convulsions and numerous potential interactions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases risk of falls. (updated 12.2.2024)
