How to Use

Dosage

The usual recommended dose for adults is one 150 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take your Bupropion Orion tablet in the morning. Do not take it more than once a day. Swallow the tablets whole; do not chew, crush, or divide them.

Important

Your doctor may increase your dose to 300 mg once a day if your depression does not improve after several weeks.

  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Increased blood pressure (sometimes severe)
  • Flushing
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Visual disturbances
RARE
  • Depression (feeling sad)
  • Feeling confused
  • Lack of concentration
  • Increased heart rate
  • Weight loss
  • Seizures
  • Palpitations, fainting
  • Twitches, muscle stiffness, uncontrollable movements, problems with walking or coordination
  • Restlessness, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, strange dreams, numbness or tingling, memory problems
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), which may be due to increased liver enzyme levels, hepatitis
  • Severe allergic reactions, rash with joint and muscle pain
  • Changes in blood sugar levels
  • Increased or decreased need to urinate
  • Urinary incontinence (involuntary urination, urine leakage)
  • Severe rash in the mouth or other parts of the body that can be life-threatening
  • Worsening of psoriasis (reddish thickened skin patches)
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning (alopecia)
  • Feeling of unreality or strangeness (depersonalization), seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), believing things that are not true (delusions), strong suspiciousness (paranoia)
  • Suicidal thoughts and actions
  • Detachment from reality and inability to think clearly or make sound judgments (psychosis), including hallucinations and/or delusions
  • Sudden and intense fear (panic attack)
  • Stuttering
  • Decreased red blood cells (anemia), white blood cells (leukopenia), and platelets (thrombocytopenia)
  • Decreased blood sodium level (hyponatremia)
  • Changes in mental status (e.g., restlessness, hallucinations, coma) and other effects, such as body temperature over 38 °C, increased heart rate, unstable blood pressure and exaggerated reflexes, muscle stiffness, lack of coordination and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), when taken with other antidepressants.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to bupropion or any of its ingredients. If you get signs of an allergic reaction like rash, swelling, or trouble breathing, contact a doctor right away and stop taking the tablets.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are already taking other medicines that contain bupropion.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have epilepsy or have had seizures in the past. If you have a seizure while taking this medicine, stop taking it and tell your doctor.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia nervosa.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a brain tumor.

  • Do not take this medicine if you usually drink a lot of alcohol and have recently stopped or plan to stop drinking.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have recently stopped taking calming medicines or plan to stop them while on Bupropion Orion.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking or have taken other depression medicines called MAOIs in the last 14 days.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life, contact a doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.
  • This medicine may make you feel confused or dizzy. If this happens, do not drive or use tools or machines.
  • This medicine is not recommended for people under 18 years old. Using antidepressants in those under 18 is linked to a higher risk of suicidal thoughts and actions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider risk of convulsions and numerous potential interactions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases risk of falls. (updated 12.2.2024)
