How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and teens over 15 is one or two Buprenorphine/Naloxone G.L. Pharma 2 mg/0.5 mg tablets. Your doctor will tell you the right dose.

Method

Take your dose once a day. Place the tablets under your tongue and let them dissolve completely. This usually takes 5-10 minutes. Do not chew, swallow, or eat/drink anything until the tablets are fully dissolved.

Important

The most you can take in one day is 24 mg of buprenorphine.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Constipation
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
  • Sweating a lot
  • Headache
  • Symptoms from stopping drug use (drug withdrawal syndrome)
  • Feeling sleepy or tired (drowsiness)
  • Feeling worried or nervous (anxiety)
  • Stomach or belly pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Feeling dizzy
RARE
  • Swollen glands (lymph nodes)
  • Shaking or trembling (tremors)
  • Seizures
  • Trouble speaking clearly (slurred speech)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), which can be a sign of liver problems.
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations).
  • Severe allergic reactions with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to swallow or breathe; also severe rashes or hives.
  • Slow or difficult breathing.
  • Tooth decay (cavities).
  • Heart attack.
  • Feeling hostile or angry.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to buprenorphine, naloxone, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have serious breathing problems.
  • Do not take if you have serious liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are drunk from alcohol or have alcohol withdrawal symptoms like shaking, sweating, anxiety, confusion, or seeing/hearing things that are not there.
  • Do not take if you are using naltrexone or nalmefene to treat alcohol or opioid dependence.

  • Children under 15 years old should not use this medicine.
  • Never give this medicine to other people. It can be very harmful or even deadly to them. Keep it in a safe place to prevent theft.
  • Taking this medicine with alcohol or other calming medicines (like benzodiazepines or other opioids) can cause serious, life-threatening breathing problems.
  • If you have pauses in breathing during sleep, wake up gasping for air, have trouble sleeping, or are very sleepy during the day, tell your doctor.
  • This medicine can cause dependence. Stopping it suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms. Do not stop taking it without your doctor's approval.
  • Liver damage has been reported. Your doctor will check your liver with regular blood tests. Tell your doctor about any liver problems before you start this treatment.
  • This medicine can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, making you feel dizzy when you stand up too quickly from sitting or lying down.
  • This medicine might hide pain that could be a sign of other medical conditions. Always tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, especially when you first start taking it or if you take it with alcohol or other calming medicines. Do not drive, use tools or machines, or do anything dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • If you take this medicine with certain antidepressants, you could get a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Symptoms include sudden muscle jerks, agitation, seeing or hearing things that aren't real, confusion, heavy sweating, shaking, very fast reflexes, tight muscles, and a body temperature over 38°C. If you notice these symptoms, contact your doctor.
