How to Use

Dosage

Apply one Buprenorphine Stada patch to your skin and change it every seven days, preferably at the same time of day.

Method

Apply the patch to clean, dry, intact skin with little hair, such as the outer upper arm, upper chest, upper back, or upper side of the chest. The medicine is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. Avoid red, irritated skin or areas with other skin changes, such as large scars.

Important

Do not use more than two patches on your skin at the same time.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Constipation, nausea or vomiting
  • Itching of the skin
  • Rash, redness, itching, inflammation, or swelling at the application site
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion, depression, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, nervousness, tremor
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth
  • Sweating, rash, skin changes
  • Tiredness, unusual weakness, muscle weakness, swelling of hands, ankles, and feet
RARE
  • Mood changes, restlessness, agitation, intense feeling of well-being, hallucinations, nightmares, decreased libido, aggression
  • Taste changes, speech difficulties, decreased pain or touch sensation, tingling, numbness
  • Memory impairment, migraine, fainting, concentration or coordination problems
  • Dry eyes, blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears, dizziness or vertigo
  • High or low blood pressure, chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Cough, hiccups, wheezing
  • Flatulence
  • Weight loss
  • Dry skin
  • Muscle spasms, pains, and aches
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Urinary retention (bladder does not empty completely)
  • Fever
  • Increased accidents (e.g., falls)
  • Withdrawal symptoms, e.g., agitation, anxiety, sweating, or shivering when stopping Buprenorphine Stada treatment.
  • Angina pectoris (severe chest pain related to heart disease)
  • Mental disorders
  • Balance difficulties
  • Swelling of eyelids or face, narrowed pupils
  • Breathing difficulties, worsening of asthma-related breathing difficulties, abnormally strong breathing
  • Feeling faint, especially when standing up
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Local allergic reaction with clear signs of swelling (treatment should be stopped in this case)
  • Swelling and irritation inside the nose
  • Erection problems, sexual dysfunction
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Skin redness
  • Dehydration
  • Muscle twitching
  • Ear pain
  • Blisters
  • Seizures, convulsions, or fits
  • Inflammation of the intestinal wall. Symptoms can include fever, vomiting, and stomach pain or discomfort.
  • Colic-like abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Feeling unreal (depersonalization)
  • Withdrawal symptoms in babies born to mothers who received buprenorphine during pregnancy, such as high-pitched crying, irritability, restlessness, tremors, feeding difficulties, sweating, and failure to gain weight.
  • Contact dermatitis (rash with inflammation and possible burning sensation), skin discoloration.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to buprenorphine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you have breathing problems.
  • If you have a drug or substance addiction.
  • Do not use if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors (antidepressants) within the last two weeks.
  • If you have myasthenia gravis (a disease causing muscle weakness).

  • If you have experienced withdrawal symptoms like restlessness or anxiety after stopping alcohol.
  • This medicine should not be used to treat drug withdrawal symptoms.
  • This medicine should not be used for acute pain.
  • This medicine should not be given to children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Avoid alcohol while using this medicine, as it can worsen side effects and impair your reaction time.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, drowsy, or have blurred vision. Avoid these activities for 24 hours after removing the patch as well.
  • Avoid exposing the patch to intense heat (e.g., heating pads, sauna, hot baths), as this can increase drug absorption and cause the patch to detach.
  • This medicine can cause addiction. It is important to use it exactly as prescribed by your doctor and to tell your doctor if you have a history of addiction.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Low transdermal efficacy in cachectic patients. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. (updated 24.3.2025)
