How to Use

Dosage

Apply one Bupremyl patch to your skin and change it every seven days, preferably at the same time of day.

Method

Bupremyl is a transdermal patch that releases medication through the skin into the bloodstream.

Important

Do not use more than two patches at the same time and do not cut or halve the patch.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Constipation, feeling sick (nausea), being sick (vomiting)
  • Itchy or red skin, rash, redness, itching, inflammation, or swelling at the patch site
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion, depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nervousness, shaking
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth
  • Sweating, skin rash, other skin changes
  • Tiredness, unusual weakness, muscle weakness, swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with sudden wheezing, trouble swallowing or breathing, swelling of face/lips, or widespread rash/itching.
  • Heart problems like the heart not pumping enough blood, very low blood pressure, or chest pain related to heart disease.
  • Inability to empty the bladder.
  • Severe breathing problems (very slow or shallow breathing).
  • Persistent constipation with swollen stomach and vomiting (bowel obstruction).
  • Sleep disorders, restlessness, agitation, strong feeling of well-being, mood changes, hallucinations, nightmares, decreased sex drive, aggression.
  • Taste changes, speech difficulties, reduced sensitivity to pain or touch, tingling or numbness in hands or feet.
  • Memory loss, migraine, fainting, problems with concentration and coordination.
  • Dry eyes, blurred vision.
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness or spinning sensation (vertigo).
  • High or low blood pressure, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Cough, hiccups, wheezing.
  • Muscle spasms, pain and aches.
  • Trouble urinating, inability to control urination.
  • Fever, chills.
  • Local allergic reaction with clear signs of swelling.
  • Increased risk of accidents (e.g., falls).
  • Withdrawal symptoms when stopping medication, such as agitation, anxiety, sweating, or tremors.
  • Mental health problems.
  • Balance problems.
  • Vision problems, swelling of eyelids or face, small pupils.
  • Worsening of asthma, unusually fast or deep breathing.
  • Feeling faint, especially when standing up.
  • Trouble swallowing.
  • Itchy, runny nose.
  • Erectile dysfunction, sexual problems.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Thirst, dark urine (dehydration).
  • Drug dependence.
  • Small muscle twitches.
  • Earache.
  • Pimples or blisters on the skin.
  • Seizures or convulsions.
  • Inflammation of the bowel wall (diverticulitis) with symptoms like fever, vomiting, and stomach pain.
  • Increased sensitivity to pain.
  • Repeated upper abdominal pain (biliary colic).
  • Feeling detached from oneself.
  • Withdrawal symptoms in babies born to mothers who used buprenorphine during pregnancy, such as high-pitched crying, irritability, tremors, feeding difficulties, sweating, and lack of weight gain.
  • Contact eczema (skin rash with inflammation that can include a burning sensation).
  • Skin discoloration.
  • Needing ever-increasing doses of this medicine to achieve the same level of pain relief (tolerance).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to buprenorphine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing difficulties.
  • Do not use if you have a drug or substance dependence.
  • Do not use if you are taking MAO inhibitors or have taken them in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disease).

  • Do not use if you have withdrawal symptoms (restlessness, anxiety, tremors, sweating) when stopping alcohol.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a head injury, severe headaches, or seizures.
  • Avoid alcohol as it can worsen side effects and affect your reaction time.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, drowsy, or have blurred vision.
  • If you notice serious skin reactions like blisters or open wounds at the patch site, contact your doctor.
