How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right strength of Buprefarm patch for you, and may adjust it after 3-7 days to find the best pain relief.

Method

Apply one Buprefarm patch to clean, dry, and hairless skin (on the outer upper arm, upper chest, upper back, or side of the chest) and change it every seven days, preferably at the same time of day.

Important

Do not use more than two patches at the same time, and the maximum total dose is 40 micrograms per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Constipation, feeling sick or being sick (nausea/vomiting)
  • Skin itching
  • Rash, redness, itching, inflammation or swelling at the application site
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion, depression, anxiety, sleeping problems, nervousness, shaking
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth
  • Sweating, rash, sudden skin eruption
  • Tiredness, unusual weakness, muscle weakness, swelling of hands, ankles or feet
RARE
  • Restlessness, agitation, strong feeling of well-being, hallucinations, nightmares, decreased sex drive, aggression
  • Taste changes, speech difficulties, decreased pain or touch sensation, tingling or numbness
  • Memory loss, migraine, fainting, problems with concentration or coordination
  • Dry eyes, blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in ears, feeling dizzy or spinning
  • High or low blood pressure, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Cough, hiccups, wheezing
  • Flatulence (gas)
  • Weight loss
  • Dry skin
  • Muscle cramps, pains and aches
  • Incontinence (leaking urine)
  • Difficulty starting to urinate
  • Difficulty fully emptying the bladder
  • Fever
  • Increased risk of accidents (e.g., falls)
  • Withdrawal symptoms like agitation, anxiety, sweating or shaking when stopping Buprefarm treatment
  • Contact dermatitis (rash with inflammation and possible burning sensation)
  • Angina (severe chest pain due to heart problems)
  • Psychotic disorder
  • Balance problems
  • Swelling of face or eyelids, constricted pupils
  • Breathing difficulties, worsening of asthma, hyperventilation
  • Feeling faint, especially when standing up
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Local allergic reaction with clear signs of swelling (treatment should be stopped if this occurs)
  • Swelling and irritation inside the nose
  • Decreased erection, reduced sexual function
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Skin redness
  • Dehydration
  • Muscle twitching
  • Mood changes
  • Ear pain
  • Blisters
  • Sleep-related breathing problems (sleep apnea)
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Inflammation of the bowel wall, with symptoms like fever, vomiting, and stomach pain or discomfort
  • Acute stomach pain or discomfort
  • Feeling detached from oneself (depersonalization)
  • Withdrawal symptoms in babies born to mothers who used buprenorphine during pregnancy, such as high-pitched crying, irritability, restlessness, shaking, feeding difficulties, sweating, and failure to gain weight.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to buprenorphine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have breathing problems.
  • Do not use if you have a drug addiction.
  • Do not use if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors (a type of antidepressant) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a severe muscle weakness condition).

  • Do not use if you have experienced withdrawal symptoms (like agitation, anxiety, shaking, or sweating) when stopping alcohol.
  • Buprefarm patches should not be used to treat drug withdrawal symptoms.
  • Buprefarm patches should not be used for sudden, sharp pain.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have seizures or convulsions.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe headaches or sickness from a head injury or high pressure in your head.
  • Talk to your doctor if you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a high body temperature, as this can make more medicine enter your bloodstream.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have depression or other conditions treated with antidepressants, as combining them with Buprefarm can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Avoid alcohol while using Buprefarm patches, as it can worsen side effects and affect your reaction time.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning pregnancy, or think you might be pregnant, unless your doctor specifically advises it.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery while using Buprefarm patches or for 24 hours after removing a patch, as it can affect your reaction time.
  • There is a risk of developing dependence or tolerance to Buprefarm patches.
