How to Use

Dosage

Apply one Buprefarm patch to your skin and change it every seven days, ideally at the same time of day.

Method

Apply the patch to a clean, dry, undamaged skin area on your upper arm, chest, or upper back, where there is little hair. You can trim hair with scissors, but do not shave. Do not use soap or other skin products on the area.

Important

Do not use more than two patches at the same time, and the maximum total dose is 40 micrograms per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Constipation, nausea, vomiting
  • Itching, skin rash or redness at the patch site
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion, depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nervousness, tremors
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth
  • Sweating, skin eruption
  • Tiredness, unusual weakness, muscle weakness, swelling in hands, ankles or feet
RARE
  • Restlessness, agitation, strong feeling of well-being, hallucinations, nightmares, low sex drive, aggression
  • Taste changes, speech problems, decreased sensation, tingling or numbness
  • Memory loss, migraine, fainting, poor concentration or coordination
  • Dry eyes, blurred vision
  • Ringing in ears, dizziness
  • High or low blood pressure, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Cough, hiccups, wheezing
  • Gas, weight loss, dry skin
  • Muscle cramps, pain and aches
  • Incontinence, difficulty starting or fully emptying bladder
  • Fever, increased risk of falls
  • Withdrawal symptoms like agitation, anxiety, sweating, or tremors when stopping Buprefarm
  • Contact dermatitis (skin rash with inflammation and burning sensation)
  • Angina (severe chest pain from heart problems)
  • Mental disorders, balance problems
  • Swelling of eyelids or face, small pupils
  • Difficulty breathing, worsening asthma, hyperventilation
  • Feeling faint, especially when standing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Local allergic reaction with swelling (treatment must be stopped)
  • Swelling or irritation inside the nose
  • Erection problems, sexual dysfunction
  • Flu-like symptoms, skin redness, dehydration
  • Muscle twitching, mood changes, ear pain, blisters
  • Sleep apnea, seizures or convulsions
  • Inflammation of the bowel wall (fever, vomiting, stomach pain)
  • Feeling detached from oneself, skin discoloration
  • Withdrawal symptoms in babies (high-pitched crying, irritability, tremors, feeding problems, sweating, poor weight gain) if mother used during pregnancy

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to buprenorphine or any other ingredient.
  • Tell your doctor if you have trouble breathing or if your breathing stops while you sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not use if you have a drug or alcohol dependency.
  • Do not use if you are taking certain depression medicines (MAO inhibitors) or have taken them in the last two weeks.
  • Tell your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness condition).

  • Do not use if you have had withdrawal symptoms (like agitation, tremors, sweating) when stopping alcohol use.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures, a head injury, or high pressure in your brain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a fever, as it can increase how much medicine your body absorbs.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have depression or are taking antidepressants, as this combination can cause a serious condition.
  • Buprefarm should not be used to treat sudden pain.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or adolescents under 18 years old.
