How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right patch strength for you.

Method

Apply one patch to a clean, dry, and hairless skin area, such as your upper arm, chest, or upper back, and change it for a new one every seven days.

Important

Do not use more than two patches at the same time, and the total dose must not exceed 40 micrograms per hour.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness.
  • Constipation, nausea, stomach pain or discomfort, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth.
  • Itching, rash, redness, inflammation, or swelling at the application site.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Confusion, depression, anxiety, sleep problems, nervousness, tremor.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Sweating, sudden skin eruption.
  • Tiredness, unusual weakness, muscle weakness, swelling of hands, ankles, or feet.
RARE
  • Mood swings, restlessness, agitation, strong feeling of well-being, hallucinations, nightmares, decreased libido, aggressiveness, feeling of detachment, mental disorders, personality changes.
  • Changes in taste, speech difficulties, decreased pain or touch sensation, tingling or numbness, memory loss, migraine, fainting, concentration or coordination problems, balance disorders.
  • Dry eyes, blurred vision, narrowed pupils, swelling of eyelids or face.
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears, dizziness or spinning sensation, ear pain.
  • High or low blood pressure, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, angina (chest pain related to heart disease).
  • Cough, hiccups, wheezing, breathing difficulties, worsening of asthma, hyperventilation, sleep-related breathing problems (sleep apnea syndrome).
  • Flatulence, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, inflammation of the intestinal wall (with fever, vomiting, abdominal pain), acute abdominal pain.
  • Dry skin, contact dermatitis (inflammatory rash), blisters, skin discoloration, skin redness.
  • Muscle cramps, pains and aches, muscle twitching.
  • Urinary incontinence, difficulty starting to urinate, difficulty emptying the bladder completely.
  • Fever, increased incidence of accidents (e.g. falls).
  • Withdrawal symptoms, for example, agitation, anxiety, sweating or tremors when stopping Buprefarm treatment.
  • Swelling or irritation inside the nose.
  • Erectile dysfunction, sexual dysfunction.
  • Flu-like symptoms, dehydration.
  • Seizures or convulsions.
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns whose mothers used buprenorphine during pregnancy (e.g., high-pitched crying, irritability, restlessness, tremors, feeding difficulties, sweating, failure to gain weight).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to buprenorphine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems.
  • Do not use if you have drug dependence.
  • Do not use if you are taking MAO inhibitors (a type of antidepressant) or have taken them in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disease).

  • Do not use if you have had alcohol withdrawal symptoms like agitation or anxiety when stopping alcohol use.
  • Buprefarm patches are not for treating sudden, short-term pain or drug withdrawal symptoms.
  • Talk to your doctor before using if you have seizures, sleep apnea, severe headaches from a head injury, or severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol, as you might be at a higher risk of becoming dependent on Buprefarm.
  • High body temperature can cause more of the medicine to be absorbed into your bloodstream.
  • Buprefarm can cause breathing problems during sleep (sleep apnea). Contact your doctor if you or someone else notices these symptoms.
  • Alcohol can make side effects worse and slow down your reactions. Do not drink alcohol while using Buprefarm.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, unless your doctor has advised otherwise.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, drowsy, or have blurred vision. Wait at least 24 hours after removing the patch.
  • Do not apply the patch to irritated, red, or scarred skin areas.
  • Keep the patch away from strong heat sources like heating pads or hot baths, as this can cause too much medicine to be absorbed.
  • If you forget to change your patch, apply a new one as soon as you remember, but do not apply extra patches to make up for a missed dose.
  • Do not stop treatment suddenly without talking to your doctor, as your pain may return or you may feel unwell.
  • Serious side effects, like severe breathing difficulties or very low blood pressure, are possible. Seek immediate medical help if these occur.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as sudden wheezing, swelling of your face/lips, or a widespread rash.
